why upload photos directly vs. Flickr (or other photo-sharing site)?

Hi– I’m a newbie here, and haven’t been able to find a good answer to my question–Perhaps this is a stupid question, but I’ll throw it out anyway…

I’ve been posting to my blog via Flickr, but I’m wondering (conceptually) what the difference is between using Flickr and just uploading photos directly to the blog? I understand that Flickr offers an additional level of functionality– but I’m finding it really cumbersome to upload pics to Flickr first and then insert them into the blog.

What are the reasons to use one technique over another? It seems like Flickr could theoretically “go out of business” or crash and leave me without pics on my blog. On the other hand, I could rapidly eat up all of my available space on WordPress by uploading a lot of pictures directly onto the blog. Could someone please explain to me the advantages/ disadvantages of using one method over the other?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Hi lauracm – I am far from an expert on any of this, but the reason I upload from flickr is so I can resize my photos using the flickr tools.

You’re right, it does take longer, but at the moment, along with a lot of other WP users, I haven’t been able to upload images from anywhere for ages now anyway…

    Good luck!
