why was my site deleted?

Ha! Are you kidding me? It’s NOT at all easy to delete a WordPress.COM blog.
Deleting a free hosted WordPress.com blog requires ignoring multiple warning messages clearly stating that URL deletion is permanent and irreversible. Not only that it requires using the verification link sent in the email and ignoring that same warning there too. Click that links and it’s gone forever.
The deleted blog URL will not become available again. I’m sorry but you cannot recover or register any deleted blog URL. Deleted blog URLs are not recycled, regardless of who registered and deleted them and no exceptions are made.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/recycling-blog-names/You can register another .wordpress.com blog http://en.support.wordpress.com/register-a-blog/
Then if you wish to you can register a domain via a domain mapping upgrade because it does not matter what the underlying .wordpress.com address is when you are domain mapping.

You’ve only been here a week. How much could you possibly have lost?

I never deleted the page. I have it on my favorites and it was gone this morning and I try to go to the URL and it says it’s been deleted by author. Again, I did not delete the page.

Oh no! What is the URL starting with http://?
Maybe it’s caught up in the duplicate blogs issue that Staff are fixing. Post the URL please and I’ll tag this thread for a Staff follow-up. Please subscribe to the thread so you are notified when they respond and please be patient while waiting.

I built a webpage through network solutions.
Then why are you posting here?
We don’t provide support for any blogs not being hosted by WordPress.COM. You are posting to the wrong support forum. WordPress.com and WordPress.org are completely separate, have different log-ins and run different versions of some themes with same names. http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
If you don’t have a username account at WordPress.ORG click http://wordpress.org/support/ and register one on the top right hand corner of the page that opens, so you can post to the support forums there and receive advice from WordPress.ORG bloggers.

Finally we have what we need ie. a URL http://sparksprotection.wordpress.com
Tagged for Staff as I said above. -
In the short time period I’ve used the support search, I first saw two unanswered questions on slugs – well a flippant non-answer on the first, and when the person came back with another question, it looked like the issue was closed without the closer having read the whole remark + question. Now I see that at first you did not take this person seriously that they did not delete their blog. Very unprofessional of you.

@jordanandtravis-
After looking into your account history, it looks like you permanently deleted the site 3 weeks ago. As our volunteers mentioned we make sure that you truly want to delete a site by adding multiple warning messages before this is done since it is permanent.
I’m so sorry, but at this time it would be best to create a new site by logging into WordPress.com from here:
http://wordpress.com/my-blogs/
There will be a link to Create Another Blog.
Feel free to reach out if you have any questions!
