Why won’t a <br clear=left> work?

  I’m working my page template I want to use and there’s one little thing I want to do. I want to start the body of the page after my initial photo and titles. I inserted a <br clear = “left”> in Windows Live Writer and it shows up fine in there (even when I do the preview.) But when I publish it to WordPress the code isn’t even in the page anymore.

  What’s happening here?

  I love you. I pasted that line between the </p> and <p> where I wanted the break and it worked like a charm. Thanks!
