why won't a photo upload to my blog?

Why won’t my correctly formatted photo upload? In terms of formatting, it’s just like literally thousands of other photos I’ve uploaded to my blog (jpg, compressed to 1024 pixels in the longer dimension, file size ~200kB). I’ve only used ~17% of my upload capacity so that shouldn’t be an issue. Is there a maximum number of photos/files that can be uploaded? I don’t see how to access that information (how many I’ve uploaded) or whether there is a limit. I was in the middle of uploading my next blog post and its associated photos when the photo upload task got hung up. I’ve retried several times and restarted my computer (that didn’t help), so it seems to be on the WP side rather than my laptop. I’m using WP.com, Twenty Ten theme.
