Why won't audio shortcode work

I can’t get the [audio] shortcode to work
I have tried everything I can and still can’t get the [audio] shortcode to produce the audio player on my blog. I can create a download link to an mp3 file stored elsewhere on the web, but I can’t reference that same file, or any audio file, using the audio shortcode. The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

1. What type of audio file is it?
2. What is happening once you put the code in?
3 .Do you have the most current version of your browser and have flash player installed?reference: http://en.support.wordpress.com/audio/

its ;an mp3 file stored in my dropbox public folder. placing the short code:
[audio dropbox url here] produces no player on the post when published. that text is present in the body of the post at the end and after all html tags, but publishing the post produces nothing.
I am using the latest versions of IE10 and Safari. I am able to access and play the audio file via a download link from within the same post, so I assume I have the latest necessary plugs. -
What is the exact MP3 link? When you put it in the shortcode, are you putting it in the Visual or the Text editor (use the Visual, and make sure the link is not active when you put it in; use the Unlink button to deactivate it).

The URL of the file is:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/2281930/WordPress/podcasts/LooktelMoneyReader.mp3
I’ve been using the text editor to write in the short code. I’ll try the visual editor. One thing, I’m blind and am using screen readers to work, and I’m very new to the dashboard and editors, so I’m having a little difficulty in getting around and understanding the interface.
I don’t know what you mean by “make sure the link is inactive, but I’ll look for the unlink button and use it when I insert the shortcode. -
Well, as you can see from that link, it’s highlighted in blue and if you click on it, it works. That’s what you DO NOT want for the audio shortcode. Put the link in and then use the Unlink button to make sure it’s not active. That and using the Text editor is probably what’s been causing the problem.

`I don’t know if I mentioned it, but no, I can’t see colors on the web as I’m blind and the screen reader doesn’t see and report everything. Anyway, I think I have it now. My last revision seemed to produce a flash player at the bottom of the post where I inserted toe short code. Problem is, My screen reading software can’t interact with the flash player. So, if its working, I can’t tell. I think that maybe the blind will just have to be content to insert download links for audio and forgo the nifty audio player.

That needs to be reported to staff, because surely they should be able to fix it somehow.

On the plus side, the audio shortcode is working.
With our audio player, if Flash is enabled in your browser, the Flash player will display. If Flash is disabled, the audio is served in the new HTML5 audio tag.
Support for that tag isn’t universal across the board yet, so we default to the flash player.
Can your screen reader interact with other Flash apps and our audio player is an exception or is this a common limitation of Flash in your experience?
Thanks for reporting this and welcome to WordPress.com
