Why won't IMAGE and FLIKR widgets work?
-
I don’t seem to be able to get the IMAGE widget to show an image…It shows the little square place holder icon thingy but not the image. The image LINK works fine to my website but NO IMAGE shows in the sidebar widget area.
Similarly I can’t get the Flikr widget to work right.
I copy the URL link from FLikr. On the WP blog side bar I get a box with “MORE PICTURES” printed in it but NO pictures. When I click on the box NOTHING happens. NO FLikr link…Nada !I’m sure it’s pilot error so what am I missing here ? Thank You – John Welzenbach

For the Image widget, you have entered http://www.flickr.com/photos/johnwelzenbach/7869792156/ as the image URL.
This is not an image, but rather a page on Flickr. On Flickr, the actual image URL is found by selecting Actions -> View All Sizes, then selecting the desired size, and copying the URL from the download link. In this case, the image URL for a small enough version is http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7126/7869792156_0d66849a70_q_d.jpg
For the Flickr RSS URL in the Flickr widget, you have entered a URL of a set, not an RSS URL. As detailed in the widget settings:
Your RSS feed can be found on your photostream on Flickr (not a photo, album, tag, or any other page). Scroll down to the bottom of the page until you see the RSS icon or the Latest link. Right click on either and copy the URL. Paste into the box above.
The RSS feed for your photostream is: http://api.flickr.com/services/feeds/photos_public.gne?id=67207233@N04&lang=en-us&format=rss_200

I appreciate the very helpful info. It all worked perfectly. I actually only wanted the widget to go to a particular set and with the instructions you gave me and applying only to a set it worked fine. Thanks Again. -John Welzenbach

Hi John,

OK. You all were so helpful with the last one ( thanks macmanx ) now..My WordPress blog ( oughtafocus.com )Flickr widget work fine and it links to my Flickr set “Playful” fine.
But how do I select the 2 or 3 pictures Flickr displays on the blog out of the 18 in the set ? I’ve re-ordered the set by dragging and dropping the thumbnails around in the “Playful” set section so that my preferred images are at the front of the line-up, but it seems to select the oldest two images by creation date. Thanks all – John Welzenbach

There isn’t really a way to do that. You can control how many photos the widget takes, but the widget will choose the photos at random and refresh periodically.
