why won't my domain name load from google search; it loads from browser

I bought a domain name from WordPress several days ago. It loads from the browser but not from a Google search. When I Google the name I find the same name with .blogspot.com attached. This is also mine–a blog I started some time ago with a Google account but which I abandoned because I could never find it. My current WordPress purchased domain name will not load except if put it in the browser. What to do?

  • Hi,

WordPress.com automatically sends notifications to Google with every post and page update. The search engines can take 4-6 weeks or more to add any new sites.

For more information about WordPress.com and Search Engines, you can see this support page:

Hi, Bryanvillarin, thank you for your speedy reply.

I understand, now, that I have to wait several weeks before my domain name shows up in a Google search. But meanwhile I have discovered this old website from Blogger that shows up on a Google search and which has the same name as my new website with WordPress and the same name I just bought from WordPress for my domain name, except it has a “.blogspot.com” at the end. I did a little research, which I did not really understand but it seemed that Google would somehow naturally drop the old Blogger site, once my current blog was in Google. True? The names of course are not exactly the same as my new name is “example.com” and the Blogger site is “example.blogspot.com”. But “example” typed into Google brings up the Blogger site so would it continue to do so or will it gradually go away? Or do I have to do some mapping thing or something like that?
Thanks very much, in advance for your help.

Hi there, we have no control about what results appear in Google and other search engines when searching for specific terms. It is up to the search engines how they display the search results.

For your example.blogspot.com, you might want to check out this Google support article on how to remove a page from search results: http://support.google.com/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=164734
