Why won't my post save the layout I use when writing?

I write out my blog post and space my paragraphs and pictures how I want them, however when I save or preview the post everything gets messed up, pictures are randomly strewn about the page and my paragraphs are all over the place. Please advise.

This is ridiculously annoying. No matter what I do the pictures will not stay where I put them. They snap to random points in the page and will not save in any other pattern. When I try to write the paragraphs around them the next time I save the paragraphs mess up.

Are you formatting using proper HTML tags or copy/pasting from a word processing program, or how are you formatting? If you do not format using HTML or a web-compliant program like Windows Live Writer, this is what will always happen.

1) What does “space my paragraphs and pictures how I want them” mean? How are you trying to do this?
2) Better link to a specific post so we can see what you’re talking about. -
I think my formatting was the problem. I’ll give HTML a go and see if that solves the problem. Thanks for the advice.

Ok I have tried to fix it but nothing I do works.
I want the pictures separate from each other with a paragraph beside it but it keeps ending up like this

The part under “Instruments” is where is messing up. No matter what I do the picture will not stay where I want it to. It keeps snapping up to that position. I have never had this problem before. If you can’t see the link I posted let me know.

The alignment icons in the WordPress editor are for aligning text; they are not for aligning images. http://en.support.wordpress.com/visual-editor/#alignment They are used to achieve wrapping text around images on either the right or left hand side, or to display an image that’s centered without text on either side of it. If the text beside the images does not occupy the same amount of space that the image beside it does then the text wrapping will continue and the images and text that follow will have a staggered appearance.
Align-left means position left, with the rest of the content wrapping around the right side of the image.
Align-right means position right, with the rest of the content wrapping around the left side of the image.
Align-center means position center, with no wrap-around (= the rest of the content below the image).To prevent the staggered effect what you do is insert the following snippet of code into the HTML editor after each image/text pair:
<p style="clear:both;">TEXT HERE</p>Every theme has a maximum displayed image width http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2009/07/23/maximum-image-width/ so it’s important to keep that in mind when posting multiple images side-by-side. If you want two images to be side by side on the same line start by setting the alignment of both images to left.

I’m sorry if I keep asking stupid questions but is there no way to have a picture appear below another without filling the space beside it with text. I tried that code you posted and it just left me with a big “Text here” in the middle of the the post. I tried deleting the text and double tapping the space bar just to see if it would work but it did not.

All I can think to do is to input some text and just colour it white so it can’t be seen. That fixes the problem completely but surely that can’t be how wordpress intended people to deal with that kind of problem.

Timethief’s reply is incorrect (she has copypasted a phrase of mine that addressed one issue and combined it with a code of mine that was designed for a different situation).
You have now deleted your test post, but if I understand correctly you want a column of images, with some accompanying text next to each image. If so, you insert each image at the beginning of its companion text (setting the image alignment to left), and add this code after each text:
