Why won't my sidebar changes show in my blog?

    I can add widgets into my sidebar in Appearance>Widgets, but the sidebar itself never changes from the defaults. (I have read for hours trying to find a solution and am coming up with nothing.) I am using the Autofocus theme and my blog is here: http://lauramcl.wordpress.com/.

    I am correct that the column with the date and RSS Feed link is the sidebar, right? That’s where the changes should be showing up?
