Why won't newsletter subscription widget display in a custom sidebar?

  • Unknown's avatar

I am trying to use the MailPoet plugin to create a newsletter subscription sidebar. I want this to appear in the right sidebar on one page (I use custom sidebars already). However, even after creating a new sidebar, and adding the mail poet widget, then going into edit page and adding the new custom sidebar, it will not show up.

The page is an integrated blog (www.saltacademy.net/news) so I think maybe this is something to do with why it won’t work?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Sorry, logged in personally but working on my work’s website.

    Hi there,

Without seeing the code I can’t be sure, but I’m going to guess that the code which you are trying to use is not allowed in our system. Many kinds of dynamic code gets stripped out by our system for security reasons. You can review what kinds are and are not allowed right here:

    Add Code to Your Site

If you look at the code that you’re entering in and any of it looks like it belongs on that list, that will be why it isn’t working or it is disappearing when you click save. If you’d like me to take a look just to verify, you can paste it here (just remove any user-sensitive information such as usernames, passwords, etc).

    Thanks!
    ~Ash.

Sorry, do you mean the code for the widget? Or sidebar? Or blog? Or all of it?
Sorry, I’ve not used an integrated WP blog on a website that uses WP as the CMS before, so this has stumped me.

The custom sidebar (including the mail poet widget) works fine when added to both new and existing pages on the website. But for some reason, I can’t add it to the blog page. I’ve now tested other sidebars with different widgets and none of them work with the blog.

Someone else actually set up the integrated blog, but I’ve checked the default settings and can’t see anything out of place.

I sincerely apologize, I didn’t see your follow-up message saying that the site you needed help with was http://www.saltacademy.com/news.

This site is not actually hosted here on WordPress.com. If it is a WordPress site (I cannot tell as it is currently showing a “404, Not Found” error page), then it would be a self-hosted WordPress.org installation, which functions under some very different rules. A short comparison explaining the differences:

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

The good news is that the plugin you’re looking to use will almost certainly work with your site overall, however the bad news is that I am completely unable to assist you with it. You will need to reach out to the person who set it up for you or perhaps your website host. You can also try reviewing the WordPress.org support pages right here:

Sorry that I can’t be of more help. Best of luck!
