Why wont "read more" tag appear?
-
I would like to have a read more link on my homepage. I followed the instructions from : https://en.support.wordpress.com/more-tag/view-all/, but it is not appearing on my site, any ideas why it’s not working?
Thank you

Hi,
The truncation of posts on the posts page of the Canard demo (See also page 2 of the demo’s posts stream.) and on your own posts page suggests that the theme automatically truncates non-featured content posts on the posts page. A “read more” tag might work if you place it in the post content above the point where the post is presently being truncated.

Hello @musicdoc1,
Thank you. I tried adding it in like you suggested, but it did not work. Does a theme have to support the read more option for it to appear? Is there a way this can be added through css?
Thanks

Not that I’m aware of. I’ll tag the topic for staff attention.

Hi Susu,
The way the “Read more” option is support in Canard is to cut of the text at either the
<--more -->tag or by using the excerpt feature. However, the theme does not support displaying the read more text as one can click the post title to read more. The work around is to add HTML for the read more link in the excerpt. For example:
This is my excerpt Read more of this post
As HTML is required this will not be able to be done with CSS.

Thank you buddies and musicdoc1. I wish I could have added it, but it’s nice to know the reasoning behind it. Thanks again

Looks like my HTML code example did not get posted correctly in the forums. If you’d like to manually added the excerpt here is the HTML code you may use:
This is my excerpt <a href="#"> Read more of this post</a>You will need to replace # with the full URL to your post.
