Why won't you support the Lockerz (formerly Vodpod) Button?

  • Unknown's avatar

I was frustrated about the loss of Vodpod for my news and commentary blog. So I went back to Lockerz to see whether they had anything new to offer. Apparently, they do have a button for those of us who use Google Chrome. When I captured a video, it coughed up an exact shortcode that I have seen used for WordPress.com. However, when I tried to use the short code on WP, I got nothing but a blank screen. So what gives? Some of us want to use a Vodpod-like video grabber for our blogs. Now that Lockerz seems to have resurrected Vodpod in a small way, you refuse to support it…or at least, the software. Some of us may never use or afford iPhones or iPods, or Video Press, but I know that I was perfectly happy with Vodpod/Lockerz until it was taken away from us, almost without warning. Now, what do you have to say?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

What is an HTML post editor? And when I have used gigya, I have gotten nothing but a white screen in response.

One more thing, Press This! for me is not an option. The video disappears whenever I try to post it and the story online.

If you are not running one of the browsers and versions listed at http://browsehappy.com/ please try upgrading or switching first.

Note: If you are using an IE9 browser in compatibility mode that makes it render as IE7 and IE7 is not supported. To disable see > http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1196-internet-explorer-compatibility-view-turn-off.html

If you are, please do these four things:

    1. Try clearing your browser’s cache http://www.google.com/support/accounts/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=32050

    2. Make sure that you have third-party cookies enabled http://en.support.wordpress.com/third-party-cookies/

    3. Try with all browser extensions or add-ons temporarily disabled.

    4. Try enabling HTTPS: http://en.support.wordpress.com/https/

If you are not successful let us know exactly which browser (and version of it) you’re using and post any error reports you get.

It’s what WP has now labeled “Text” editor.

And when I have used gigya, I have gotten nothing but a white screen in response.

Then you probably used it incorrectly. Link to a video you’d like to embed please.

    This is a link: http://abclocal.go.com/wtvd/video?id=9051864&pid=null

    And this is the embed code: <object id=”otvPlayer” width=”400″ height=”268″><param name=”movie” value=”http://cdn.abclocal.go.com/static/flash/embeddedPlayer/swf/otvEmLoader.swf?version=fw1000&station=wtvd&section=&mediaId=9051864&parentId=null&cdnRoot=http://cdn.abclocal.go.com&webRoot=http://abclocal.go.com&configPath=/util/&site=” ></param><param name=”allowScriptAccess” value=”always”></param><param name=”allowNetworking” value=”all”></param><param name=”allowFullScreen” value=”true”></param><embed id=”otvPlayer” width=”400″ height=”268″ type=”application/x-shockwave-flash” allowscriptaccess=”always” allownetworking=”all” allowfullscreen=”true” src=”http://cdn.abclocal.go.com/static/flash/embeddedPlayer/swf/otvEmLoader.swf?version=fw1000&station=wtvd&section=&mediaId=9051864&parentId=null&cdnRoot=http://cdn.abclocal.go.com&webRoot=http://abclocal.go.com&configPath=/util/&site=”></embed></object>

That is not a gigya shortcode. What shortcode did you use?

  • Unknown's avatar

I thought that you were asking about the codes that I used. I know that it is not the gigya short code. I

I used the gigya code that you demonstrated when you answered my first question about Vodpod.

  • Unknown's avatar

I have erased the gigya code that I tried to do out of frustration.

I asked for a link to the video, so I could see the embed code myself. Pasting the embed code suits me fine too. Correct shortcode:
    [gigya width="400" height="268" allowscriptaccess="always" allownetworking="all" allowfullscreen="true" src="http://cdn.abclocal.go.com/static/flash/embeddedPlayer/swf/otvEmLoader.swf" flashvars="version=fw1000&station=wtvd&section=&mediaId=9051864&parentId=null&cdnRoot=http://cdn.abclocal.go.com&webRoot=http://abclocal.go.com&configPath=/util/&site=" ]

It WORKED! I’m going to print this out. Can this work as an example for any other embed code? I come across a lot of this flash, frame and other videos…

  • Unknown's avatar

No, it cannot work for any other embed code.
First, the gigya shortcode works with flash embed codes only (tags “object” and/or “embed”): it cannot be used in the case of iframe or javascript codes. But note that some sites that now provide iframe codes may also have an option somewhere that allows you to copy the “old” (i.e. flash) embed code.
Second, it depends on exactly how the flash embed code is written, and this unfortunately varies. What I pasted above is rather easy to produce when the code includes an opening and a closing “embed” tag, with attributes and values as in the code you pasted: all values inside straight quotes after an equals sign, and plain numbers for the dimensions. In that case you copy this part only:
    <embed ETC ETC src="URL HERE?VARIABLES HERE"></embed>
    and turn it to this:
[gigya ETC ETC src="URL HERE" flashvars="VARIABLES HERE" ]
(In my previous reply I removed some items that aren’t necessary, but you needn’t bother with this.)
