Why wordpress why?

I love wordpress, but why did you have to introduce the changes (and a drastic one at that) out of the blue! Why didn’t you leave us with the option of reverting to the old scheme till the new one is ‘perfect’? This is not an agony post, it is just a thought expressed by many others across the forum though in different words
I like the main page of dashboard but the changes in widgets page (for example) just made it more confusing and difficult to comprehend. The sheer number of topics the changes have thrown up is an evidence to my point… pls pls pls make it possible for us to revert to the previous version of dashboard while giving one the option to test out the new version.. that way the bugs can be taken care of and the transmission will be a smoother process

I agree. My fonts looks like it’s all in bold print.

There is no difference between bold print and normal print!

Oh ya thanks for reminding there is problem with CSS as well!

I am quite surprised with the change to the widgets page – didn’t realise it had changed until you pointed it out. It used to be very easy to understand and use – drag and drop, and you could see all the columns simultaneously and choose which widget went where. Not so keen on the new style – doesn’t seem as intuitive.

Reminded me of what Microsoft did with Vista!

Wake me up when it’s all over :| I’m not even gonna bother and try and understand the changes. I really don’t have time to adapt to a new dashboard. A Friendly “Guide to Wp 2.5” is very much required.

The changes were discussed for several weeks in the forums, actually. You should come around more often.

I shouldn’t have to keep an eye on the forum to be aware of coming changes. It should have showed up in NEWS that changes were on the way. It would have allowed for backing up since I lost all the data in my TEXT and RSS widgets due to the upgrade (yes I contacted support – no I don’t expect a resolution other than maybe having widgets not erase themselves after changing others and hitting save).

In our dashboard is a news feed – it should have been posted there that these changes were coming. I don’t come to the forums for entertainment, I come to the forums when I have questions.

    I couldn’t agree more. :(

Oh god. What happened to the widgets page? I pretty much escaped what everyone has gone through. Now I look at that widgets page and I am stumped. I didn’t even know until I read it here. I have to go study it now.

And, evidently, to blow off steam.

If you want to discuss with WordPress.com staff how WordPress.com staff communicates with their users, it’s better for everyone (except maybe staff) if you do it directly.

The forum volunteers are all just bloggers like you, we’re VERY fried after dealing with all the technical questions, we are utterly powerless to influence the way that WordPress.com communicates with its users, and we cannot at this point provide emotional support. We’re fried. I seriously suggest you either communicate directly with staff or you post it in your blog. An “I hate the new WordPress” post was among the top ten posts yesterday, so it’s a monster for getting hits.

    Raincoaster,

Are you trying to brown-nose the WordPress guys? This is a serious cock-up and some of us are finding our blogs unusable because of the I/O error on image uploads.

Normal bloggers don’t hang around forums like this. There is a “News” facility which tells us every time a new theme comes out (like we need to know?) but nothing about installing a buggy new interface. Communication breakdown combined with poor development values equals grim response.

I was out for a holiday and when I am back I see this.
Man they should have issued a warning.
    :(
Its like a new site now. I was so used to with the old one.

  • Unknown's avatar

semper, read my post above yours. I am certainly not brownnosing anyone.

If you read the News thing at all you must know that WP.com doesn’t announce things that are coming up; they ALWAYS announce things after they’ve happened. It’s just the way they are.

I’m no happier with this communication style than you, but I’ve been around longer and I’ve learned what to expect, what can be changed, and how to cope with what is out of my control. I’m trying to help out here.

“The changes were discussed for several weeks in the forums, actually. You should come around more often.”

Who the “frak” cares, the changes were terrible and everyone is pissed off. It does not matter how much you talk about it, it was a bad move and we can’t go back. I thought I was changing my header back to it’s original state not changing the whole frakin’ dashboard!

    AAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!!

    Ok, I’m done

  • Unknown's avatar

Thank you. I take full responsibility both for the changes and for your emotional wellbeing.

Maybe Matt Mullenweg was in Seville during Holy Week. The festivities are literally intoxicating, and this is what may have happened to him. There are bautiful women and horses, and at night there are drums, drums, drums. Let’s hope he recovers soon.
