Why would all of my followers and email subscribers have been deleted from site?

  • Unknown's avatar

I had about 7 email subscribers/followers, and also I had about 3 or 4 blogs that I followed. Today when I checked they have all gone from my stats page. I have done nothing to delete them. I only discovered it because I had almost no feedback from a post I published yesterday and thought I’d just check the stats and see how many people had read it. Can I get them back? This is very disappointing.

I’m unable to find any followers associated with your blog.

Is it possible that you’re referring to a different WordPress blog?

I migrated my blog to a new account several weeks ago (and several blog postings ago) and the followers migrated with it, because I was getting responses from them. Now when I check, there is nothing there. I could understand if they hadn’t migrated with the blog, but they did, initially.

Could you let me know which blog/account you migrated from?

It’s possible that the followers are still associated with that blog.

The blog/account I migrated from is ardysz, blog titled The Inner Life. I have already thought of this, however, and have gone back and copied the followers contact details and emailed them, in case they would like to re-subscribe. I have noticed, however, that two NEW followers I had on the current xmamabear account, had disappeared as well as all the old ones. This is what concerns me, that I may build up the following again and then it will all disappear again. I have had several issues with people trying to subscribe to both of my accounts, and now this. On at least two occasions people had signed up to follow my blogs but never received the confirmation email. Now I find that people who had been following for some time have been deleted. Please look into this as I’m sure it is not something I have done wrong, there is a glitch in the system somewhere. Thanks for your attempt to help.

  • Which blog is the one that lost subscribers? It is possible that they may have unsubscribed.

No this is not possible. I have verbally checked with those subscribers who I know and they have definitely not ‘unsubscribed’. Also, the site lost the two NEW subscribers I had. The only one that remained was one that had subscribed a day before I wrote this series if enquiries to you. Aside from this issue, I’ve had two others with regard to subscribing, one with my old personal blog, and one with the blog which I produce for my art club. My mother tried repeatedly to subscribe to my personal blog and for some reason it just wouldn’t work. I even tried it for her, with her computer, thinking she had done something wrong, but it just wouldn’t work. With the art club blog, I had a member who had tried to subscribe twice but received no follow up confirmation email, until I encouraged her to try one more time. The third time she was successful. It concerns me that subscription is a continuing difficulty. The two blogs use completely different templates, as you will see. The art club blog is called caasinc.wordpress.com and my old personal blog is called ardysz.wordpress.com. This is the one I migrated to a separate account, which is now published as ardysez.wordpress.com. I also changed templates at this time, but checked and the subscribers were still intact for at least two postings after the migration. It wasn’t until the current posting, when I got little feedback from those I usually hear from, that I checked the subscribers and found there were none except a brand new one that had just signed up the day of that last posting. Thanks for your interest. A

  • When you subscribe, a confirmation email is sent. If you do not click the activation link in this confirmation email, the subscription is not activated. I suppose it’s possible that the confirmation email could be caught as spam.

Specifically, which blog lost the subscribers? It’s not clear above.

The blog that lost the subscribers is ardysez.wordpress.com under the account name of xmamabear. Thx.

  • That blog doesn’t have much of a history of subscribers. Just 2 WordPress.com subscribers, 2 email subscribers, and 4 subscribers who have not yet activated their subscriptions.

If you are trying to wear me down so that I will not care anymore, it’s working. For a ‘happiness engineer’ you are not making me very happy. I KNOW my blog doesn’t have that many subscribers, regardless they managed to get deleted a couple of weeks ago. I only ever had 8 subscribers anyway, but whether it was 8 or 80 somehow they were all deleted and it wasn’t me who did it. I have asked people to resubscribe and started again. As for those who have not activated their subscriptions, I suspect it is because they haven’t received the activation email. As I explained to the other fellow who was trying to answer my questions, this has been a problem for me with both blogs that I have been publishing. My own Mother has not been able to subscribe to my blog because the subscription request just never goes through. I have tried and she has tried it multiple times. I also had this same situation with the caasinc.wordpress.com blog. Finally after the third time trying to subscribe, the person got it to work. I can only go by what people tell me is their experience. The woman who had the trouble with the caasinc blog is an experienced computer person so I doubt she was doing anything ‘wrong’, but who knows? I am tired of explaining all this over and over, and I am heading overseas in two days so I guess we’ll just have to leave things unresolved. I hope my subscribers are not deleted again, that’s all I can say.

By the way, where can I find the names of those who have not yet confirmed their subscriptions? I would like to see who they are so if they are people I know I can ask them if they have received their subscription confirmation email or not. Thanks.

  • I don’t see anything that would have gone wrong to remove your subscribers. Such a thing would have been system-wide and have affected all bloggers.

At this time, it would see that they just unsubscribed, but we don’t track that.

As for the users who have no confirmed their subscriptions, we cannot make that information public, as they have no agreed to the subscription.

If they have not received their activation email, they can try subscribing again to get a new email. They should also check their email’s spam folder as it can sometimes be caught as spam.
