WHYcan't we remove subscribers
-
I don’t mean “if” or “how” to unsubscribe. I’ve read all those threads.
The only response I’ve ever got from WordPress support was a blunt statement to say I just can’t and to set my blog to private – an avoidant response.
I KNOW it’s a public blog and wish it to remain so. I just don’t want to draw further attention to it from people I specifically don’t want to follow my blog. After I received a flood of subscriptions, I decided I didn’t want that function. But there was never any warning beforehand that you can’t remove subscribers.
Removed the widget and asked subscribers to remove themselves by posting a blog which went into their inboxes. All but two have done so. It just grates on me that I can’t just have them removed without causing them and myself any embarrassment.

This is something staff would have to give a reason for, and if they have just said essentially, “you can’t,” that is pretty much final. You can always try contacting them again on the subject to see if they will give a reason.
Sorry, that is about the best I, as a volunteer here, have to offer.

The other thing is, why even bother to delete a subscriber? They can just go to your site and see it all right there. Granted you are actually ending subscriptions by removing the subscription widget, but I think you can get my point.

Subscribing is also A kind of bookmarking.
Are you going to ask people not to bookmark you as well?anyway, the widget is for RSS subscription, not the wordpress.com subscription.
they will still be able to follow your RSShttp://blogname.com/feed
and you don’t have anyway of knowing who follows you on RSS.I suggest rethinking your position of being subscribed to. most people think of it as flattery.

I see this question, or variants asked so often.
TSP and dlager have both given excellent answers, plus anyone can just resubscribe as someone else even if you COULD remove them – so what would be the point?
I agree with dlager, if you want to remove subscribers froma public web page, which a public blog is, then perhaps you should rethink the whole concept of blogging altogether.
Basically, the concept of having a public blog and not wanting specific people to read it is oxymoron. Being a little bit public is like being a little bit pregnant.

Why do you want to get rid of your subscribers? Direct them to me if you don’t want em :P

I also have a subscriber that I would like to block. Mine is nothing more than a stalker. He has his email setup to go to his cell phone and that is how he surfs the net. If he had to use other methods of following my blog, it would not be as easy for him to do. WordPress makes it easy for him to follow my blog. When I started blogging here and set the email subscription up, it was possible to block people from subscribing so there is absolutely no reason why I should not be able to do that now. For the record, the police have already been involved when he was calling my house at all times of the day and night and hanging up. Because he lived in a different state, they felt it was easier to call and lecture him than press charges.
As for the comments about not having a public blog, mine is medical type blog and I have helped a bunch of people and I should not have to stop blogging because of one moron from my past.

@Kellywpa – your situation is really a police situation, not a WP situation. As you point out, the person in your case is a stalker. He would find a way blog or no blog, unless he is stopped.
RSS feed would be easier for him on the phone than email, but then you wouldn’t know and because he is stalking you, he wants you to know.

If the police are involved and there is legal action involved this might be relevant:

I haven’t got Kellywpa‘s problem to the same degree. And I’m with her on the point that it’s absolutely great people are benefiting from my blog. But there has been unwanted attention from certain individuals known to me that can be described as obsessive and copying.
Thanks to everyone who responded.
