Widespread visits to my blog

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi–
    My WordPress blog is: http://www.MartinJRyansAmerica.com
In 2014 I was advised that 42 countries had visited my blog; therefore I began to track, and so far it’s 32.
I was further advised that two of the places referring to my site (and no doubt still are) were:
    1. buttons-for-website.com
    2. make-money-online.7makemoneyonline.com.
Can you tell me if these are the reason for widespread visits, and if so, what are they?
    Thanks.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

those are both spam sites – what they do to your stats depends on how much total traffic your site has – I think buttons came from 5 countries on one of my test sites over the last year (100% of the traffic) – but my main site has enough traffic that buttons is just an annoyance and does not do anything significant to the stats or the number of countries that visited my site since I get traffic from all of the buttons countries normally

your site is not at risk and the spammers can’t do anything more than annoy your stats

the spammers can’t do anything more than annoy your stats

why do they even bother to do so is beyond me.
    programming is hard.
if you have the skill to do it, what a waste of talent to spend your time bothering people.

    Thanks guys– Re.

How do I determine in my total traffic, what is legitimate interest in my blog, and what is redirected spam–if any?

They are hoping you click through to their sites from your stats page. That’s why they do it.

There’s no way to determine the legitimate amount of interest in your blog. Flagging spam referrers as spam helps keep them out of the stats, so do that when you see spam referrals like this. You can’t see into peoples’ minds to see how interesting your site really is to them, but the ratio between viewers and views is an indicator. The more views per visitor, the more interesting your site is to them.

Thanks for the responses. Today, I was informed–re. my visitor, that the referrer was buttons-for- website.com. I’m still wondering how and why that site is referring people to my blog. To whose advantage?
    Thanks
