Widget

In the customizing widget, I dont have the – First Front page widget, or second or third, only the footer widgets.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)
-
Hi there,
The front page widgets will only display on a page that has the Front Page template assigned to it. Therefore, you will only see the option of adding them in the Customizer when previewing a page with that template.
Let me know if that’s clear or if you have extra questions.
-
Hi, thanks for your help, the options do appear now, however now all the bottom widgets I had disapeard, how can I delete my blog and start all over again, because even when I choose a diferente theme and come back to this one, I can´t get it to work. I think I deleted something importante :), actually the more I mess with it the worse it looks. I just want to start all over again.
Thx

Hi @themonkeythorn,
I could import some dummy content and settings from Sela’s demo site, if you’d like to start afresh and edit the dummy content. If I do that, then I will need to remove all existing content from your site. Let me know if you’re OK with that and I’ll go ahead.
Alternatively, you could try to continue with the work you’ve already done. I can see that you’ve set up a static front page and assigned the correct page template to it. The next step would be for you to add the widgets of your choice via the Widgets panel of the WordPress.com Customizer.
Let me know how you’d like to proceed and I’ll be happy to help out accordingly.

Hi Siobhyb,
Please just delete the whole thing and restore the default settings for the Sela demo site. and I will try to be more careful this time.
Thanks so much for your help. -
Sure thing! I’ve gone ahead to delete all content on your site and have replaced it with dummy content/settings from Sela’s demo site.
You’re free to go back to customising it to your liking. :)
We’re right here if questions come up along the way.

Hi Alice,
Can you explain How I can change the widgets image and content.
Absolutely!
The first step is for you to navigate to the Widgets panel of the WordPress.com Customizer.
You can reach the Customizer by navigating to My Site in the top left of WordPress.com and the choosing the option to Customize:
https://wordpress.com/customize/themonkeythorn.wordpress.com
From there, select First Front Page Widget Area to edit the widget in the first column of the front page. You’ll need to click on the Text widget to expand its settings.
You’ll find two fields in the settings: Title and Content.
In the Content field, you can use HTML in order to add images or links to the main text.
If you’re not sure what HTML is: It’s a coding language that’s used throughout the web to structure sites. We have a good introductory guide here:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/beginning-html/
I read in the suport that i need a media Library, but when I tried adding the /wp-admin to my sites address it just gave me an error.
Can you copy/paste the following URL into a new browser tab and let me know if you’re being taken to our classic admin area?
https://themonkeythorn.wordpress.com/wp-admin/
From the above page, navigate to Media > Library in the left sidebar to reach your site’s Media Library. You can then upload new images from there.
Also to add content to the widget do i have to have another page or can it be content from the page BLOG.?
You don’t need to create another page in order to add content to your Text widgets. It’s not even necessary to link to another page within them, though you can if you desire.
The widgets can static content of your choice, or you can add links or images using HTML (I’m happy to help with HTML if <a href=”https://en.support.wordpress.com/beginning-html/
“>the guidance here is confusing in any way).Gosh I´m really battling, sorry about having constant questions.
Please don’t apologise! The difficulties in the setup process are definitely are problem on our end and I’m happy to help you through any questions.

Hi Siobyhyb,
Is it possible to add widgets to my page Tutorials, and link them to posts on the blog?
How do I link the front page widgets to a post?
Thanks
-
Hi Alice,
From a look over your site, it seems you may have figured this out for yourself. Awesome! :)
As you’ve done in the very first widget on your home page, you need to include a HTML link within a Text widget in order to link to different posts or pages on your blog.
We have the exact steps needed to create a link using HTML here:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/beginning-html/#adding-a-link
You can add widgets to the sidebar area to include them on individual posts and pages, also.

HI,
Yep I figuered out how to creat a link in the widget, yipee,… but I would also like on my Tutorial page to have widgets that look like the ones on the home page, (with a foto and a link to a post) so that I could have a widget for every tutorial that I will post on my blog page. Below is a link to a site that has what i would like to have on my tutorial page.
Is it possible on wordpress?
Thanks

I have a huge problem. I did the try and customize with this theme and some how my sidebar was deleted. I have important information that my poor memory won’t fix this simply by re doing all of it… how do I get this information back??
-
Hi @themonkeythorn,
The Sela theme doesn’t display posts in a grid-like way by default. If it’s possible for you to publish your tutorials as pages (not posts) then you could make use of its grid page template, as shown here:
https://selademo.wordpress.com/page-templates/grid-page/
Alternatively, you could consider a theme that displays posts in a grid-like way by default. Pictorico, Cubic, and Baskerville are examples of a few such themes. I encourage you to have a browse through our repository also:
Let me know if that helps out!

@epiphanylp: I’m happy to see that @timethief helped you out over on this thread:
https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/all-of-my-sidebar-was-deleted
If you have any extra questions then please don’t hesitate to start a new thread on this forum. You can do that here:
https://en.forums.wordpress.com/forum/themes#postform
It’s easier for us to keep track of different questions if they’re kept to separate threads and also prevents the original poster from receiving unnecessary email notifications.
Thanks!

Hi Siobhyb,
The grid page works fine :)
This next question has nothing to do with widgets, but maybe you can tell me anyway.
Why is it that when I google search my blog, it doesn’t appear, only if I write down the exact addresseven if I write The Monkey thorn wordpress, then this support forum appears.
Is there some setting on my site that I can change do that my friends can find my blog just by typing the name on google.
Thanks

Hi Alice,
It takes time and consistent, good quality content to get a site to rank high up in Google’s search results.
Here at WordPress.com, we handle many of the behind the scenes mechanics of Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) on your behalf.
For example, themes are built to make it easy for search engines to crawl their content and we automatically notify Google each time you publish new content.
This leaves you to focus on the task of publishing good quality and consistent content.
I recommend the following resources as places to learn more about SEO and for tips on improving your site’s ranking:

I also recommend getting involved in the WordPress.com challenges on our Daily Post blog. It’s a great way to introduce yourself to the community and promote yourself:

Hope those resources are useful for you!
