widget

I’ve been told by my professor that I have an unused ‘widget’ on my page. I am not sure what a widget is and I’m not sure how to remove it if it is on my page. Can you help me? I’m sorry I’m so technologically ‘unsavvy’ but I would really appreciate some help.
Thanks very much,

Hi Emily,
A widget is a fancy word for tools or content that you can add, arrange, and remove from the sidebar(s) of your blog.
I’ve had a look at your site and can see an unused widget in your sidebar — it has a heading of ‘Text Widget’. You can see an example here: https://revisitingchildhoodblog.wordpress.com/2016/10/10/its-monday-what-are-you-reading-4/.
If you would like to remove this widget you can so in the Customizer: https://wordpress.com/customize/revisitingchildhoodblog.wordpress.com. Select Widgets → Sidebar and then click the arrow on the widget you wish to remove. This will expand the box and reveal a Remove option at the bottom.
Let me know how you get on :)

Thanks so much for getting back to me. The only footer widget I have is goodreads…….so I’m not able to see the widget on the side. I’m so frustrated that others can see it but I can’t, and that I don’t know how to remove it. Is there any other way I might be able to see it as an admin to my site? I definitely see what you’re talking about when you give me the https site to go to…..I just don’t see it when I open up my site.
Thanks again!

Hi Emily,
Can you follow this link to your widgets editor: https://revisitingchildhoodblog.wordpress.com/wp-admin/widgets.php.
Once in the widgets editor, there should be a box with the heading of ‘Sidebar’ (on the right). Within that, a ‘Text Widget’ heading.
Let me know if you can see it.
Thanks!
