To date I have had a widget for top posts & comments that worked perfectly fine. Suddenly yesterday it displays only 3 posts not 8 as it should. I have deleted & replaced it. Also set it to 10 not 8 to display but it remains at 3 regardless. Can you tell me why this is happening?

This may happen if for a day or two your top pages include types of content that you haven’t checked in the “Types of pages to display” section of the settings in the Top Posts & Pages widget. The options are Posts, Pages, Media, Testimonials, and Projects.
On my primary site I only check the first two options (posts and pages). So if images are among the most visited one day, which happens rather frequently, then on that day or the next (depending upon the timing of the visits) those images will be excluded from the Top Post & Pages list, and yet counted against the number of items displayed. Consequently, the number of items displayed is decreased. I’ve had it display as few as 2, when it was set to display 10!

Thanks musicdoc1 , will look at that one now. Interestingly next day it increased to 5 or 6 again! OK, prob solved then. Thank you again for speedy reply. Appreciated : )

I plan to bring this issue to the attention of staff again, privately, because I think it’s a result of, shall we say, less than stellar design. It seems like it could be possible without too much trouble to have those content types that aren’t checked off be excluded from the count, and thereby maintain a constant number of items displayed. Why exclude them from the number of displayed items but include them in the count?
