Widget and Plugin confusion
-
I’ve been trying to find suitable widgets to add to my blog, but googling stuff just leads to confusion. WordPress says it does not allow plugins or javascript widgets…yet all the results I get when googling things like “best wordpress widgets” bring me plugins that I can’t add. They even say “WordPress plugins”, though WordPress says they’re not allowed, and mention a plugin menu that does not exist.
I just want a list of some decent widgets that I CAN actually add to my blog. Any help is much appreciated.

WordPress.com and WordPress.org: The Differences
http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/These are the widgets that can be enabled on your free hosted WordPress.com blog > http://en.support.wordpress.com/topic/widgets-sidebars/
There are others that we can use as well but unless you tell us exactly which widgets you want and what they are for we will be going around in circles.

Sweet, thank you timethief. I honestly have no idea what widgets I’m looking for yet, but you’ve given me a great starting point. If I come up with more specific questions I’ll leave them in this thread.
Thanks again

Good. If you find Flash widgets that you want to use we may be able to provide a gigya shortcode that will enable you to use them on your blog.
I can also recommend a comprehensive tutorial prepared by Staff > http://learn.wordpress.com/

do you know how to enable the plugins menu? I’ve upgraded to wordpress.org, hosted by bluehost, which wordpress recommends. i used bluehost’s automatic install of the wordpress software, but i still cannot see a plugin menu.

@skinbikerun: It’s best if you ask your question at http://wordpress.org/support which is the forum for self-hosted WordPress blogs.
