Widget Categories
-
Hi everyone,
I have recently added ‘widget catergories’ to my sight as I have a lot of posts under specific categories. I just can’t figure out how to move the posts to the individual categories. The entire list of posts are showing up under each ‘widget categories’.
I did go the Manage/Categories but only my existing post categories appear, not the widget categories which I have setup as drop downs.
Help please :)

Since you have your username linked to a commercial website, we do not have a link to your blog. Is this the blog you are talking about http://lotusmoons.wordpress.com/ ?

If http://lotusmoons.wordpress.com/ is the blog you are talking about, you have only one post, and it has no category assigned to it. Categories will not appear in the category widget until there is a post assigned to it.
You assign categories to posts when you write them. At the top of the column to the right of the test area is a blue bar with “categories” in it. When you write a post, you check the categories you want to assign to that post there. The categories assigned will then show up in the category widget.

Hi there, I have a few blog sites, but my professional hosted site is through yahoo :) (www.lotusmoonspa.com). The wordpress blog I’m referring to is: http://www.shaktishaman.wordpress.com
I’ve since read that the categories widget will not actually allow you to separate your posts, but will simply duplicate the same list of posts to each ‘category’. Is this infact true?
I would appreciate it if you could view the site I noted. I’ve changed it back to one category, but from the way I named them it’s hopefully clear what I’m trying to setup.
Thanks for your feedback,
Happy New Year,

We can have multiple categories widgets in our sidebars if we choose. Every individual categories widget we use will show all the categories* that we configure them to show.
We can make these selections inside every individual categories widget
Title:
Show as dropdown
Show post counts
Show hierarchy -
But rather than trying to explain this any further there are times when a look is worth a thousand explanations. Click my username. Scroll to the bottom of the sidebar. There you will find a categories1 and a categories2 widget. Open them and check them out.

Hi Timethief,
Thanks for the response, I apologize in that I didn’t explain myself quite well, but that’s what I was trying to say. When I had setup multiple categories, the list just duplicates and I can’t select individual items, which is what I’ve since read is the case.
Thanks for confirming. I’ve removed the categories as they seem redundent.Happy New Year,

Yes we have multiple category widgets but they all do the same thing. I suspect it is a project started by wordpress but then never finished.
I was thinking of putting my extra category widgets on ebay to see what I could get out of them.

It was a hard to explain situation but we persisted, made contact and confirmed our similar findings. Now I will remove the redundant clone categories 2 from my sidebar too. :)

@tsp
Flogging them on ebay sounds like a plan. I hear that many useless items attract deals there. ;) -
