widget clarification….

  So I am new and am trying to understand things before I get going………I get some of the widget categories, like: text, RSS, calendar, etc…. but am curious about what some of the others mean like: Akismet, del.cio.us, Meta, etc… Can someone direct me somewhere where I can learn about them?
