Widget Config Not Working?
-
I just upgraded to the lovely Regulus 2.1.1 template, and am arranging my widgets in the sidebar. Sadly, when I click on the “Configure” graphic on the side of the Widget box, it does nothing. The “Configure” graphic brings up the editor for the Text boxes fine, but for the Flickr and Categories widgets (which I would like to use) nothing happens at all.
I am running Firefox 1.5 on Mac OSX 10.4 – I tried emptying out the cache and such, but no dice. Also tried looking in Safari, but the “Configure” graphics there don’t even show up!
Any help would be lovely – thank you!

ditto here. initially i thought thr was nothing to configure that’s why nothing comes up… i’m sure it will be fixed soon

I also have the same problem. In “Sidebar Arrangement”, when I click on the cofigure image, it does not do anything.

I’m guessing that Sulz and Byam are using Firefox as well since they’re agreeing with silentseas.
I have a feeling that this is a continuation of the other problems reported by Firefox users in the past. I would suggest sending in a feedback on the issue.
Please make sure that you mention the browser, OS, and versions numbers as well when you do submit a report. You may even want to point them to this thread.
Thanks,

@ silentseas
I am using Regulus 2.1.1, FireFox 1.5.0.2, on Windoze.I also could not configure with this recent Regulus release, but as a workaround this is what I did. I selected another Theme with Sidebar Widget support – tested with ‘White As Milk’
I could configure and save the sidebar using the White as Milk theme. Then switched back to Regulus and it keeps the settings.
It may be Regulus theme issue rather than a FireFox issue (as I could configure the sidebar on another theme). You may want to check/comment at their site also. The Regulus Theme was just updated on 4-11-06 I believe.
Binary Moon did Regulus – http://www.binarymoon.co.uk/
Cheers!

I don’t know what the problem is. I have the same setup (firefox 1.5, mac os x 10.4) and it works just fine for me. Sometimes the configure images don’t appear in safari for me, but just drag one of the items and the image should appear. But I am not sure what the problem is.

@ silentseas
I am using Regulus 2.1.1, FireFox 1.5.0.2, on Windoze.Update: There seems to be an issue with Configuring some of the Widgets with this theme. The RSS Widget can be configured, but when selecting the Calendar or Flickr Configure for example the Configure popup does not open. I tested this on White As Milk theme, and Configure works fine on that theme.

hi drmike
yes am using firefox and will send a feedback as you suggest, but what’s os? sorry if it’s an elementary question. thanks.
hi almost
i tried doing what you did to change my sidebar but it doesn’t work. =( thanks for the suggestion though

Now the sidebar doesn’t work for me. I have tried it in Internet Explorer 7, Firefox 1.5 Windows, Firefox 1.5 Mac, and Safari. None work for me now. It did earlier today though.

I, too, am using Regulus and have been unable to configure widgets since I switched to that theme last evening. I believe the RSS and Text widgets do give me the popup, but no other ones are working. I tried in Firefox and IE with no success, both at work and at home. :( …Hope this gets resolved before too long!

Redgoat, did you do anything before then and now? Like change your theme? If you changed your theme, you have to resave your widget selections.

I just switched to the contempt and now the config buttons work normally. I was on the regulas when it was not working
-
Glad to know I’m not the only one with problems! I used the advice of editing and doing config on the widgets in the White As Milk theme and then switching back to Regulus. A bit of a pain, true, but worked in a pinch.

I commiserate. I’m new to wordpress. At first, I never knew what widgets are. When I finally realized they’re not biscuits of sorts, I couldn’t get them to work. ** sigh

Same issue. Using Firefox or IE, on an XP system, I was not able to make the changes to widgets ‘stick’. I turned off Zone Alarm, and the problem was fixed. I am not sure which feature of Zone Alarm blocks this ability, but WP changes to Widgets work when Zone Alarm is off.

I was able to configure my del.icio.us widget in Firefox on Windows XP, but it wasn’t showing the links, rather, the title was a link to my del.icio.us page (which wasn’t what I was looking to have), so I came here to read all these troubles, then decided to see what IE7 did.
There I found that clicking the little ‘configure’ icon resulted in only placing the widget below the other one in my line-up. None of the widgets can be configured in IE7. Instead they drop one space below where they were in the sidebar representation.
I guess I’ll next attempt to shut off my Norton firewall and experiment a little…

I wrote incorrectly about all the widgets in the interface under IE7. Some of them are configurable, but the RSS and Text widgets drop down to the next space without letting you configure them.
And when I shut my firewall off, I had success getting my del.icio.us links to show up, then they disappeared again. In Firefox, you can configure all the widgets; you do have to keep in mind that the little ‘x’ in the upper right is actually not going to cancel you out of any changes, but rather, it’s the only way to say: “okay, I’ve configured it. Now commit my configuration and close this dialog.”
Now I’m going to clear my cache and see if both IE7 and Firefox display my del.icio.us links properly… (I wonder what happens when I allow my firewall to continue firewalling?)

Hi – I am also experiencing this problem. I am using the MistyLook theme and running Firefox 2.0.0.4 on Mac OSX 10.4
Also, the Default Sidebar box has appeared at the top of the Sidebar 1 organiser panel – that was not there before.
Trying Safari has not helped
Changing themes has not helped
I am able to remove or add widgets to my sidebar but not configure them.
I was not having this problem before – it has only occurred after upgrading to WordPress 2.2.1
Being a relative newbie to all this, I’m a little in the dark and any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Shardul.

i think you have a self-hosted blog, in which case you have to go to http://wordpress.org/support to place your query. this is the forum for bloggers hosted by wp.com.
