  Can I deactivate widgets so that that they appear only on selected pages, not on all pages?

  Unfortunately, no. Widgets are site-wide in the theme you’re currently using.

  Some themes, like the Twenty Eleven theme, do allow you to specifically set pages to display no widgets.

  Thanks. I’m using different Themes for two different blogs (one not yet published) – the Theme in which I’m seeking to deactivate the widgets is Ascetica (not the Contempt Theme). Does your answer apply to Ascetica also?

  Yes, this also applies to Ascetica.
