widget display
-
I use Expound and it does not have footer widgets but I am seeing some widgets displayed in the footer on my theme.
Why are these widgets below not displaying on the sidebar on my posts when that is where I set them to display?

This is an update to let Staff know I switched themes several times yesterday and these widgets
Search
Categories
Text (copyright)
are still displaying in the footer.
I’m currently using Gazette. -

Sorry. Hopefully this will work https://www.dropbox.com/s/28u5tbyll5p4dbz/Screenshot%202015-09-14%2011.46.16.png?dl=0

Ah okay, I see that now. hmmm.
Were these footer widgets in a previous theme? If so, it might be too much, but if possible we might try switching back to that theme, removing the widgets, then switching back to Gazette.

The theme I used for a long time was Expound and it does not have footer widgets at all. I changed themes several times since this has happened to determine if this was theme specific. I even changed back to Expound. Well, regardless of theme, the widgets were still displaying in the footer when single post are displayed on their own pages, and when Pages are displayed, just like they are now. :(

P.S. In desperation just now I switched back to Expound but that made no difference, so I’m using Gazette again.

Possibly but I have used many themes over the years and I have not used one with footer widgets recently.
Should I try uninstalling that text widget and then re-installing it. And why would that text widget affect where the Categories and Search widgets are displayed also?

Yeah, will you try that?

Hooray! That worked for the text widget with the copyright notice. I added the content to the welcome text widget and I think I discovered the culprit. I used to use sitemeter and I believe the issue could have been the icon for their stats tracker.
However,
the search widget and the categories widget are still displaying in the footer when posts are dis-played on their own pages and on pages too. :( -

I will try uninstalling and re-installing both the Search and Category again.
Uninstalled – checked blog posts and pages – no display in sidebar or footer
Reinstalled – checked blog posts and pages – here we go again as both are displaying in the footer rather than the sidebar :( -
Well. I’m stumped. Do you mind if we tinker with the widgets a bit while we investigate?
-
Oh here we go. You had a div tag that was closed but never opened. Not sure why this would create a new widget area for you, but removing it did the trick!
-
Hooray! Thanks so much for tinkering and for finding the solution for me. Where exactly was that rogue /div tag? I looked and looked.
