Widget: Follow blog via email
-
Hi, a look at the forum brought me to the same question by someone else, but unfortunately no answer there. So: I’ve enabled the widget and it shows nicely in the sidebar. Entering an email address brings back a message telling the potential subscriber that he’ll get an email with a confirmation link. But this email never arrives anywhere. What am I missing? Thanks!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Thanks for getting back on me with that. I’ve done some more research and some more tests yesterday and by now I think that it has nothing to do with the widget. It could be a problem of SPF. Has WordPress an SPF record containing -all instead of ?all or ~all? In Germany there are, afaik, two large providers of web-based emails who follow SPF settings in a very strict way which could explain why I’ve partly got through with the mails to certain accounts and partly not to others. Thanks!

Hi there,
If a specific subscriber is not receiving the confirmation email, it’s most likely a problem on their email provider’s end. Gmail specifically is known to filter our emails to the Social or Updates folders, causing them to completely bypass the inbox. AOL routinely marks our emails as spam. In either case there is nothing we can do on our end to prevent this from happening.
It is also possible that the email address in question has in the past opted out of notification emails from WordPress.com, in which case we won’t send them any emails even if they request one, unless they first change that in their subscription settings.
If there is a specific email address that’s not receiving the confirmation email, please reply with that email and I can take a look.

Thanks for your answer. I know positively that one address I used for testing hasn’t opted out for WordPress mails because it’s one of my own. But as I was able to subscribe with another email address and others have been able to subscribe as well, I really believe it has to do with the silly handling of SPF on account of these specific mail providers I named. So I consider this solved. Thanks again for taking the time to give these details.

Once again, without the email address in question there is nothing I can do to check into this any further.
