Widget in the main content column

Is there a theme available on WordPress.com that features a widget area in the main content column?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The blog I need help with doesn’t exist yet. The support form required selecting an existing site. Just mentioning this to avoid any confusion.

We do not provide support at WordPress.COM for any installs of WordPress.ORG software. We provide support only for free hosted WordPress.COM blogs being hosted right here on this multiuser blogging platform.

WordPress.com and WordPress.org have different log-ins and run different versions of themes with same names.

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

If you are asking can I use a widget to suck in data and then use it to populate a post or page on a free hosted WordPress.com blog the answer is no. WordPress.com does not provide any ability ie. tools that can be used by blog scraping sploggers to create auto-generated post content. Read this:

Blogs that violate our advertising policy or fall into one of the following categories are not allowed on WordPress.com:

Scraper blogs: Blogs that take content from other blogs and re-publish it without permission (this is sometimes called scraping). If a blog contains stolen content, it’s gone!

Automated blogs: Blogs that are generated by computers, including randomly generated blogs, blogs that re-publish press releases, marketing material, search engine results, link dumps or any other mass-produced content. http://en.wordpress.com/types-of-blogs/

Widgets can only be used in sidebar and footer areas on free hosted WordPress.com blogs.

This is for a blog that is going to be wordpress.com. Not asking for a widget to auto-generate content. Just to place an email subscription widget that would otherwise go in the sidebar or footer at the top of the main content column.

Is there a premium theme on wordpress.com that has such an option?

  • Unknown's avatar

Not that I am aware of as I have zero interest in premium themes. See here http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/sort/premium/

If you set up an email a subscription widget ie. Follow Blog Widget you can try adding this shortcode to a post or page where you’d like the subscription form to appear:
    [blog_subscription_form]

Thank you. If I add the subscription widget shortcode to a sticky post that always appears as the top post on the home page, that might indeed be a viable solution.

Yes, I think that may work well for you.
