Widget loading problem in brand new blog?

Not able to load widgets even after following instructions. Please advise. I drag the About me widget to the footer boxes on the right, but it does not “take” …. Please advise. Thanks!

When you first start your blog it comes with a set of default widgets. You then add your own widgets which replace the default widgets. You can add only the widgets you wish to include in your sidebar here Appearance > Widgets and that will override the default display.

Thanks for the response. I read through the linked page. My conclusion is that I chose a theme which does not include widgets in the sidebar. Instead, has “Footers” available for widgets.
Will it be too problematic for a new user like me to switch themes?
Also, could not find anything to add the social media widgets for my Twitter and Facebook. -
1) Yes, Wu Wei has footer widget areas only.
2) No. You just go to Appearance > Themes and activate a different theme. You’ll have to re-upload the header image, because each theme has different header dimensions.
3) Do you mean display your actual Tweets etc, or display image links to your T & F pages? -

I want the image links to my Twitter and FB pages displayed (probably a simple answer there, but ……). Not actual tweets. -
You’re welcome.
To display image links, you can use Image widgets or coding in a Text widget. In both cases you need image URLs. So you must first upload the images you like (from your computer to your blog) via Media > Add New, click Edit when they are uploaded, and copy the File URL.
