Widget Request : Subscription via email
-
Since my last comment was a bit short, I’ll add more. The link code will allow you to add a text link into a Text Widget on your site. When someone clicks the link, they will be taken to a form off-site where they can enter their email address and subscribe to receive your updates.

Whats the latest word on optin forms on the sidebars? No word since Dec ’06. Does anybody know of a way to use an onsite name and email form in their sidebar without having to go to another page? Id like to use my autoresponder and capture optins without having my subscriber click through “forever” to get to it. Thanks, Lori

Hi guys.
Feedburner and Feedblitz both provide reputable newsletter services. All you need to do is include a “subscribe by email” link in a text widget in your sidebar.
It’s not as nice as forms, but you can do quick hacks like I did and use an image for it.

Holly Guacamole,
Please Help, any chance of something SIMPLE FOR DUMMIES…Me
Folks all I want is a way someone can subscribe, and when I add something new to my blog people get an auto email with a link to my blog.“TO SUBSCRIBE TYPE YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS HERE”
My extended family and friends many have just joined the internet revolution like my Mum 72 years old. At this stage she has mastered looking up websites and sending receiving email. It would be really helpfully if anyone could point me in the right direction with the How To…
My site: http://talesofatrailrunner.wordpress.com/Any help would be fantastic.
Cheers

All of the best instructions are in this thread. Sorry, there’s nothing simpler. If your grandmother can use her web browser to see websites, she can just use that to see your blog once in awhile. Think of it as an incentive to put something there regularly.

While waiting for such a widget to be considered it’s useful to know that presently there is a way to provide email updates to those who subscribe http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/10/11/how-can-i-offer-email-updates/

I’m relieved to find this topic as i’ve spent ages trying to get the email subscription to work. Can anyone help me figure out how to set up a “subscribe by email” link in a text widget in my sidebar? Thanks to the above I’ve realized I can’t use the code to embed the form in a wordpress blog but I can’t seem to find any direction on how to set up the ‘subscribe by email’ link. Thanks!

Thank You! I was on that feedburner page and I didn’t see anything about a ‘subscription link code’. I could only see the ‘subscription form code’. I deactivated the service and reactivated it and then i could see the link code. Really appreciate the help!
