Widget – Side Bar – Categories

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello,

I was wondering if it was possible to have my categories tab in the side bar to have a drop down function on each separate category.

I currently have 26 categories of blogs. I don’t like that each blog entry pushes down previous blogs, making them harder to find with time.

It would be ideal if a person could somehow click on the category and it would expand to allow them to select which blog they could read.

Is this possible? Anyone have any other ideas that can make older blogs easily visible without having to scroll all the way down each category?

    Thanks.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi Pavanraheja,

It has been up and running for some time.

What I would like though is for me to be able to click on a category and then for it to expand (before going to the page with all the blogs/articles) and while it has expanded to list the articles/blogs that are under that heading.

Not to click onto it and then it opens to a page with the articles.

Sorry it’s hard to describe what I mean! Hope it makes sense.

    Can you help me?

    Hi,
Please read the Show Hierarchy option in the below link. This should suffice your requirement.
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/categories-widget/

Show hierarchy — If you have parent and child categories (subcategories within main categories) you can choose to display the hierarchy (pictured below) or just leave the list “flat,” without indicating which subcategories fit inside your main categories (pictured above). You can show category hierarchies with both the list and dropdown menu formats.

    Thank you.

    Hi Again.!
Thanks for the further details, so if you are looking to organize even your categories, you can Create Custom Menu
Organize the Categories and your Posts in a way you want them, you can have Church History and have 2 posts under that Menu ,
Have Fasting and 3 Posts under that menu ,
Or you also if you want to have Sub Categories as well.
One’s you have created a Custom Menu as per your needs, Also please note, that you have can create this as an additional Menu, without bothering you Primary Menu, you can then use Custom Menu Widget
It will appear as per you requirement, the best way would be to try in a small way and then organize it totally.

Hope this helps, please do let me know for any further assistance..! Would be happy to help you further…!

Also note the as @iamrishaan mentioned, the hierarchy would allow you to manage using your Categories and Sub Categories, if you want to even manage your Order as well as show various items the Create Custom Menu widget can be useful.
