widget visibility

Am having great difficulty with visibility of widgets. I get the visibility instruction as in , choose from drop down boxes. However it seems all geared for blogs only. The page choices only include front page, not the following pages as would appear on a site as opposed to a blog (page 1,2,3 etc). Instead it’s ‘posts page’, ‘archive page’ ‘404 page etc etc. And what is taxonomy?
What happens is I put a gallery & a links widget on one page & it just shows up on all the pages. Can anybody please simplify this as for a website as opposed to blog?

…. or to clarify, can somebody tell me how to use those visibility boxes to construct separate pages with separate different info? What should I be selecting in those drop down boxes? Thank you.

Widgets now have “visibility” settings so we can select which pages they display on. See here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/#widget-visibility

thank you , yes I saw that page & have tried to explain in first post why I am having difficulty still at choosing which option for each page. You can choose to post the info on first page, but then the other options relate more to blogs than a website. One would think the other options would be page 2, 3 etc. I don’t have any of the other suggested pages.

I’m multitasking from my business and don’t have time to explain this to you. I’ll tag this thread for a Staff response. Please subscribe to the thread so you are notified when they respond and please be patient while waiting.

Thank you for helping & yes I am being patient : )

The bottom line will be that what you see in the widget visibility setting dropdown is what you get. There are no other options.

If there is staff response here … in conclusion to all of the above I presume it is a case of getting what you pay for. If this is the case, that’s fine, I just need to know if it is my lack of understanding on the workings of widgets’ visibility on pages & the methods to change this, or it is simply not an aspect that comes with free sites. (I do not want at this stage to pay for upgrades or anything).
    Thank you in advance.

… the reason i’m not upgrading at this stage is I want to be sure I can manage wp first. Also have other sites in mind so is just early yet.

  • Hi there!

You may set widgets to appear on a specific page only if the page is public and is already published. I’m seeing that all your pages are either private or are drafts. If you publish them and remove the privacy option, they should start showing up as an option in your widgets. :)

Let me know if you’re still having trouble with this. Thanks!

Ah… so simple after all that! Thank you druesome!
Yes it will take me a while to get all the pages & info together, it being a website not just a blog, so I figured no point in publishing yet or it will be only half done. I will do all the widgets then & then post them on the correct pages when I publish, as you say.
Can’t thank you enough after all those headaches.
    : )

  • You’re welcome! :)
