Widget visibility

    Hello,
Apologies for my lack of knowledge and perhaps daft questions. I am trying to edit 1 page on my businesses profile page. I want to add another job story, I am attempting to add photos and text via widgets yet they do not appear on the page or any other page for that matter. I have tried everything with the visibility pane? Could I be using the wrong page area? Are widgets the way to go about editing a page in this way? Any advice would be appreciated. the blog is; electrosun.me

    Thanks for any help Duncan

  • Hi Duncan.

Of course, there are no daft questions. :)

And… here it is mine: Which blog do you need help with? (duncan2013dotcom1.wordpress.com or electrosun.me)

Anyway, let me explain you some concepts. In a blog you have posts, pages and widgets –among some other things :) -. Although a blog an amazingly flexible content management system, you use posts and pages in your content area (main blog space):

    – Posts are entries /contents listed in chronological order.
    – Pages are supposed to be static and not listed by date.

(Take a look at this support topic https://en.support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/)

    – Widgets are used in wordpress.com to populate your sidebar.
(This support topic can help you https://en.support.wordpress.com/category/widgets-sidebars/ )
    I hope this helps.

    Raulanton,
Thanks for your useful reply and information. The website/blog I am working on is the electrosun. From your descriptions of Posts and pages I think I need to adjust my thinking. If I want to add some photos interspersed with text would I add all these straight into the main body of the chosen page without using widgets? Perhaps then, use a widget in the sidebar, to add a list of links associated with the main body of the page?

    Thanks for your patience Duncan

  • Hi, Duncan!

I suggest you to take a look to the list of available widgets and their functionality. This is what you can add to your sidebar.

And if you want to create an ‘entry’ with text and pics, you have two options. Posts -typically posts are chronologically ordered- and pages.

I suggest you to create several test pages and posts to understand the way they works.

And of course, feel free to ask again. We are not patient but we enjoy answering ;)
