Widget Visibility in Sidebar

    Hi, it appears that it is no longer possible to set widgets to appear only in a sidebar on specific pages, or to be hidden on certain pages as suggested on the following help page.

    The … (three dots) do not appear on the right side of the block widget toolbar; and, it is not possible to select settings / more settings.

    The topic ‘Widget Visibility: add controls to widget block editor #20057’ suggests that there would be a fix for this in Jetpack release 10.2 (on 2021-10-05) on certain WordPress.com plans.

    Is the problem simply because the fix has not yet been applied to the the free plan I am using; or, is it perhaps something to do with an old theme?

    I am using Independent Publisher 2 because of a very limited knowledge of WordPress.

    In the course of trying to work around the problem, I appear to have lost the Widgets that were previously used on new pages created and published as recently as on 3rd October 2021.

    The ‘Search’ and ‘Page List’ Widgets do display successfully (but, these appear on all pages) And, on account of the problem mentioned above with the … (three dots) not appearing, it also means that all pages are listed; providing a large number of links to other pages in an order that doesn’t follow the same sequence as that used in the Primary Menu.

    Hey there, we’ve actually just been working through some bugs regarding widgets — including one that lost widgets on older themes. That one should be resolved now. If you’ll head to /wp-admin/widgets.php you should be able to find the inactive widgets there and move them back, if you’d like.

    The three dots option > “Show more settings” feature should be visible from the Customizer > Widgets panel — are you checking there? Sorry if the document isn’t totally clear that it’s working from Customize.

    If you’re in widgets.php instead, click the gear/cog icon in the upper right. You’ll find more settings for reach widget there, including Visibility under Advanced.
