Widgetry

    Hi there! I am using the hum theme for my blog http://www.onesmallpot.com. At the moment all my widgets such as Recent posts and the Follow button are right at the bottom of my blog, below all the posts. I would like to have them along the side so that people do not have to scroll down all the way to find them. Please could you instruct me as to how I can do this?
    Thanks and Regards,
    Deepa

    Hello,

    Hum supports one Main Sidebar just after the content, three widget areas in the site footer, and an additional widget area (Showcase Sidebar) on the Showcase page template. You can configure these areas by going to Appearance -> Widgets in your dashboard.

    Here is a good link if you are not familiar on how to configure Widgets:

    Hello,
    Thanks for you reply. I am still confused- does this mean that I can’t have widgets in the sidebar in Hum?
    This is a blog that uses the same theme that has managed to achieve this:
    http://pure-essence.net/

    I have read the info on widgets and have tried to configure the Showcase side bar but still cannot get the widgets to appear along the side.

    Some more specific advice would be appreciated.

    Thanks!

    Hello,

    The pure-essence.net site is using a customized Hum theme. The changes were made possible with the Custom Design upgrade, which I see you purchased.

    If I am understanding your request, you’re basically wanting both “sidebars” to the left of your content?

    To get you started, while in Appearance > Custom Design > CSS, copy and paste the following:

    #supplementary {
    display: block;
    position: absolute;
    left: 20px;
    top: 100px;
    width: 220px;
    padding: 1em;
    }

    #supplementary.three .widget-area {
    float: none;
    margin-right: 0;
    width: 100%;
    }

    The above needs adjusting to your liking, but if you need further customization help, the CSS Customizations forum is a great place:

    Hi and thanks a lot for that. That is correct, I do want the widgets to the left of the content. I have done what you advised but still not sure how to actually get the widgets onto the area. I have gone into
    Appearance->widgets and my options for widget placement are Main Sidebar, showcase sidebar and Footer areas 1, 2 and 3. I have tried placement of the required widgets in the Main and showcase sidebars but now those widgets don;t seem to be appearing anywhere, including at the bottom of the contest as they used to!
    Sorry to keep bothering you about this but I’m not great on computers so find this technical stuff fall a bit confusing.

    Regards,
    Deepa

    Hello,

    We’re here to help, so feel free to ask any questions.

    Have you tried adding widgets to the Footer Area One, Footer Area Two, and Footer Area Three sections under Appearance > Widgets?
