How important is widget to a blog? How to gg about it? what are its uses
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Widgets can just be helpful for your visitors, there’s no real use.
I’m not using any widgets myself either.– Lora

Well, widgets can be very usefull, but it completely depends on what the goal of your blog is. If part of your blog is offering news from external sites or specific twitterfeeds, widgets are VERY usefull. If you focus on mostly making blog entries, widgets aren’t that necessary. Except perhaps for the pages and categorie widget.
So I do not completely agree with lorawow that there is no real use ;)

If your blog does not have top navigation then you will need the pages widget if you have created pages since people would have no way to get to the pages.
If you use tags or categories on your posts, it would be useful to your visitors to have a category and tags widget because they would not otherwise be able to get a listing of your posts in a particular tag or category.
While widgets might not be 100% necessary, they are 99.9% useful to your visitors.

Great book, Me 2.0 by Dan Schawbel is all about personal branding and there’s a good bit about the importance of widgets. Highly recommend this book!

How do you get rid of a Meta widget that does not show up on your sidebar? I have looked everywhere my dashboard and cannot find a way. HELP!
-
@mybbjournal: In a wp.COM blog you can only use the widgets available under Appearance>Widgets.
@dptaylorjr: When you haven’t added any widgets yourself, the theme displays a sample set of sidebar items. But those items are artificially generated from the theme’s underlying files, not actual widgets. So you cannot find them in Appearance>Widgets and literally remove them: you cancel them by adding the widgets you really want.
@Both: Please paste the exact URL of your blog when asking questions here, or link your nickname to your blog (as explained in the Sticky 8 Things to Know Before Posting). Helps us help you.

and if you want to remove 1 sidebar of the “grid focus” theme as in this blog: http://www.pieterbaert.be/blog/ ? I can’t find how to delete it on http://zandbank.wordpress.com
could you give me a solution? -
You can’t. What you CAN do is learn CSS, purchase the paid CSS upgrade, and make that sidebar invisible. Note that there is essentially no support for CSS and you’re basically on your own. Use the free Preview to ensure you can do what you want before putting out your money for the upgrade.

can anyone tell me how to add this http://www.outbrain.com to my site?
Instructions:
* Unzip file into your WordPress plugin directory.
* In your WordPress admin site, go to the ‘Plugins’ page.
* Activate the outbrain plugin.
* Go to Settings -> Outbrain and select your language.
* That’s it!I have no idea how to do it?

We cannot answer technical questions relating to your blog without a direct link to your blog, starting with http.

Thank you. Plugins apply only to WordPress.ORG blogs, not WordPress.com blogs. We cannot add them to blogs hosted here, as yours is. They are for those WP blogs that are hosted independently and don’t have our security restrictions. You will not be able to use this at all.
