Widgets

Why doesn’t WordPress let us use javascript? There are a lot of widgets I would like to use but they don’t work.

Also, I’d like to be able to earn money by referring people to sites such as Amazon. Will WordPress ever let this happen?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Because this is a multi-user platform which means we all share the same files, and if you added some bad script with security issues (by accident or on purpose) it could bring down a lot of blogs. There is an amazing amount of very poorly written javascript and flash out there with security holes large enough to float a cruise ship through sideways. There are even many out there building bad code on purpose. I’ve cleaned up the aftermath of bad code, and in a couple instances, there basically wasn’t anything to recover. It trashed everything.

If you tell us what you are wanting to do, there might be workarounds. We have some seriously clever people here.

As far as advertising, I would not hold my breath. There is the a program they were offering to split adsense revenue with qualifying blogs, but I think you have to be in the range of 10,000 hits per month to qualify. I looked for a link but could not fine one.

@ifrndz, you can’t do it here. If they want to self-host then they can, but they should figure on about $10 to $25 per month average total cost and the majority of bloggers make about $100 per year, so it doesn’t cover hosting.

@thesacredpath, the link you were looking for: Advertising

@tljensen, I’ve just found an interesting thread which may partially answer your second question: A final say on Amazon/B&N Affiliate links?

That’s a guide, but that was posted before the AdControl upgrade was available.
