Widgets deleting themselves every time new one is added

  • Unknown's avatar

I need some help. For no reason this morning, attaching new widgets has started deleting old ones. I put on a new “image” widget and suddenly the 4 other image widgets disappear, along with the “meta” widget and the Facebook and Twitter feeds? This goes on happening now, every time I try to correct the problem and add a new widget on. What is going on?

I’ll mark this for staff to look at as it sounds very strange to me. (But in the meantime, try scrolling lower down the widgets page and seeing if any of your missing widgets are in the ‘inactive widgets’ area. If so, you can try reinstating them from there.)

Thanks for reply. No, I looked there and no sign of them. Very weird. It’s still happening. For instance, the “Meta” widget is on now, but I guarantee that if try to drag the Facebook widget over then the Meta widget will disappear, as if erased by it. I better leave the site as it is until someone can explain to me what’s happening here. Before today, I was doing stuff like this routinely, with no problems, for the last month or so. The only things that’s changed (and surely this is irrelevant) is that I recently started “following” the blog myself.

This is EXACTLY what is going on with my blog as well. Still have yet to receive help to fix the problem too. :(

I also looked for them in the inactive area…not there.

AND OMG I did the same – accidentally clicked on the ‘follow’ the blog link the other day. I’ll change that and see what happens! G’luck. If you figure this out – or actually get a person to help you, post here so I can see what you did. lol

Welp. Unfollowing myself did not work.

I’m unable to even grab some of the widgets. This is very frustrating!

  • Unknown's avatar

Unable to grab them? Yes, exactly, this is the same problem as me. We’re onto something, thanks for speaking up. Now, can anyone help us please?

  • Unknown's avatar

I was able to grab an image widget – but it takes a lot of work to create them, so the last time I tried to grab the twitter widget…which I was unable to do.

Which ones are working for you??

  • Unknown's avatar

Right now: most of them I think, except that whichever one I drag over and activate it deletes the one sitting up from it on the side bar.
The “Twitter” widget seems hard to reach because I cannot hold it and scroll up the page to where the side bar is, but this may be a minor problem compared to the overall one. I suspect that if someone solves the overall problem (of widgets deleting each other) then these other problems will be solved with it.
I have also “unfollowed” myself now, but it is making no difference.
Is there anyone out there at WordPress management level reading this and working on this problem?

I am having the same problems. I lost widgets, and when I tried to put them back, noticed that some of the widgets I needed, which are toward the bottom of the widget page, could no longer be dragged/dropped to the sidebar. The ones toward the top of the widget page ARE draggable/droppable. Since they are arranged in alphabetical order, it is the ones that begin “RSS” or later in the alphabet.

After I restored what widgets I could, I looked at my blog to be sure they looked like I wanted. That was last night. This morning more widgets were gone. I restored some, then checked, and they were fine. A few minutes later, most of my widgets were gone, and the ones that were there were not configured as I had saved them.

  • This issue appears to limited to just Internet Explorer for now. While we work on fixing this, would you please try a different browser, like Firefox or Chrome?

Thanks, Mezzojan. That is definitely the same problem as ours.

Please let us know, Macmanx, when you have fixed this. Better for us just to wait for now, I think.

  • This has been fixed now, sorry for the trouble!

If you lost any widgets, please first check the Inactive Widgets area at the bottom of Appearance -> Widgets in your blog’s Dashboard. If they aren’t there, please let us know the type of widgets that you lost.

Just paying this forward – but one of the Volunteers has helped me figure out my issue – I use (well not anymore, lol) IE. If you do as well, it might be your compatibility…that little button at the top by your browser…click on it and then go back to your widget page. It worked instantly for me. I was not able to retrieve lost info from the widgets, but I was finally able to rebuild my sidebar. Good luck!

  • As mentioned above, this has been fixed now. No need for Compatibility Mode.
