Widgets disappear when editing!
-
There is some kind of bug here, every time I click on a widget box to edit, it just disappears as if I was deleting it! And in cases I reach to open it and insert a code (as in text box) it deletes itself when I click on save. It’s really strange, is there any bug happening? Someone can help, please? thanks..

When you add a widget, before you try to click the edit button, click the save changes button. Then after the save is done and the page refreshes, go back and click the edit button. This is a known bug with internet explorer and has been for nearly a year now.

I refreshed and they came back.
One widget I may be using incorrectly. It’s an ad for a book, not mine, that I’m referencing… But the FAQ says that Amazon links to books someone may be reviewing are okay… (I’m going to try that next).
I’ve tried several Themes with the same behavior.
Odd….

The solution mentioned by thesacredpath is not restricted to IE. I’m a new WordPress user, using FireFox 3.x under Mac OS 10.5 Leopard. I stumbled on the “Save first” trick, and it does work.

I think one issue is what’s mentioned in the Support threads I linked above. I was trying to add a javascript ad for a book written by my screenwriting teacher (because I think it’s great and people should read it…).
Apparently WP strips javascript, particularly (or only?) from “affiliate ads” and such….
I think my blog falls under the description of “writing original book…reviews and linking to Amazon…” I’ve sent a question to Support, so I’ll see what they say.
But that, with the rest of the disappearing widgets behavior was quite alarming. (I think this is Day 2 of dealing with it.)
I’ve basically done what you say here and I used a plain text link to Amazon for the book instead of the javascript and it seems to be working…
Funny….

Yes, javascript will be stripped out. Your best bet is to link to the Amazon page for the book you are reviewing.

On the FF and Safari in Mac 10.5.x and not being able to edit widgets without first saving, I have never experienced that. I add a widget, click on the edit link, do whatever I need to do in the widget, then click the “done” button, and then click the “save changes” button and it works for me.

Have clicked repeatedly on the Edit/Cancel link? (I know, why do that?) Sometimes one gets a palsy of sorts, an over excited mousing (or “stylusing,” in my case) and that’s when the widget disappears, only to prove upon Refresh that it’s still there….
Three or four clicks seems to do it, if I recall…

I’ve had two instances recently when my cursor only touched the bar of the widget I wanted to edit and the widget simply vanished! This phenomenon happens irregularly and I can’t duplicate it “at will”.
