Widgets in Main column?
-
Long explanation as to why but I need to put something together quickly so love the themes but need to be able to put widgets in all the columns (mainly rss widget). I’ve played with a bunch of the themes with no luck but haven’t looked at all of them. Any thoughts/suggestions?

You cannot put widgets into the main content column, and wordpress does not allow the display of RSS feeds in the main content area of pages or posts. That is a typical splogger tactic (spam blogger) and it is not allowed here.

if what you want is a blog/splog filled with auto-generated content from RSS feeds then your best bet is to hire a webhost and download a free wordpress.ORG install. http://wordpress.ORG

Thanks. I’m not a spammer. I’m trying to put together a website for an elementary school. Like the blog format as it is an easy way for the non-techy Board members to add their own info to their own pages without me having to do it for them. Just don’t want to have to mediate blogging from the general population…

You can make the Board members official users of the blog. See here for roles and choose carefully > http://en.support.wordpress.com/user-roles/ See also > http://en.support.wordpress.com/adding-users/
Also note that if each Board member had their own blog then you could post the RSS feeds from their blogs in the sidebar of the main blog.

Thanks. That’s my plan for the site, however, all the sidebars I’ve found in themes are so narrow that they don’t really work. There’s got to be a way to havethe Board blog on one page and once I approve their posts have them show up to the public on another page without being jammed into a small sidebar…

I think that this may work for you. Pending Review – The post has been submitted by a Contributor. It must be published by an Editor or Administrator before it is visible to blog readers. http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/post-status/ When displayed it will appear as a post and not be jammed into a sidebar.

Also when it comes to sidebar width you have selected a narrow theme. Perhaps you would like to select a full size theme with a wider sidebar. If so then this post will help. > http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2010/01/11/sidebar-width/

WordPress.com isn’t really suitable as an aggreggator. You might be happier with a Tumblr with some kind of custom theme; they are specifically designed to pull in feeds, among other things.
