widgets – is there more options?

at the moment im using a free-theme and wondering if I can download new widgets other than the ones listed in “appearance-widgets” menu? after searching through your website and my site dashboard i’ve came up with those questions:
– does some of the options will change using different theme (free or to-pay-for)?
– does different widgets are available for specific themes?
– will i have to change a server or host for more flexibility?I’m hoping for a quick response, Thank You!

It’s not really a matter of a premium/free theme. There might be different widgets for different themes, but the main widgets you will find are under Related here:
This will be available on nearly all themes.

If you want to add plugins, yes. It is not possible to install plugins on WordPress.com, for security reasons. Plugins can only be installed on self-hosted WordPress.org blogs.
