Widgets moved from sidebar to the bottom of the post

  • Unknown's avatar

I have no idea what happened? I use the ‘Visual’ Theme since about 2 years. The home page always showed 3 rows of posts and the widgets where on the sidebar beside the post.

All of a sudden it changed, but I didn’t change a thing -mainly because I wouldn’t know how. Now there are only 2 rows of posts on the home page and the post itself is overly wide -full screen mode from left to write. No sidebar at all.

Now everything is underneath the post, where nobody can find it.

What happened? How can I change it back?

    Thank you!

    Hi there,

Sidebars and widgets in them do not fall to the bottom and display below posts and/or posts do not appear in sidebars unless

    (1) content has been imported into the blog

    (2) the blogger has been copying and pasting content from elsewhere, without using either icon 5 or icon 6 in Row 2 of the visual editor http://en.support.wordpress.com/visual-editor/#pasting-text

    (3) or the blogger has copied and pasted invalid HTML into a text widget or left an HTML tag open

After you go here and enable this > Settings > Writing
    Formatting
_ WordPress should correct invalidly nested XHTML automatically
    “save changes”

    Hello timethief,

thank your for adding “modlook,” to my post, I didn’t even know that it was possible.

I did that, but nothing changed.

I noticed the change yesterday in the evening, I didn’t post yesterday.

If I changed something, then I don’t know “how” and “what” neither do I know how to fix it.

Thank you for trying to help me, I appreciate it!

    Update:

I do have a private blog with the same theme. I haven’t posted there in at least 6 months…same change happened there.

Widgets are on the bottom. The theme itself changed only 2 rows of posts extra wide.

That makes me think that it’s a bug and not my fault.

  • Hi there,

I checked your site, and it’s showing in three columns for me like the Visual demo page.

I also checked a few of your posts and with none of them does the sidebar appear below the post content.

If you still see the problem, can you please take a screen shot and upload it to your media library here:
    https://nonsmokingladybug.wordpress.com/wp-admin/upload.php

You can find instructions on how to take a screen shot here:
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/make-a-screenshot/

Can you also please give me a link to a post where the sidebar is showing at the bottom?

    Thanks.

    Good Morning Kokkieh!

    Thank you for your reply.

I put 3 screen shots in my media library.

Every post shows the widgets underneath -under the comments.

“Open” and “Honest” go Hand in Hand

    Thank you!

  • Thanks for the screen shots.

It looks like the problem is your screen size. If I view your site the menu is all in one line, but on your screen shot the menu goes to a second line with the last item. That only happens if the screen becomes too narrow for the entire menu to fit in. And on narrower screens your theme automatically adjusts the number of columns shown on the home page, and also shifts the sidebar to below the posts to ensure everything fits.

Here is what I see when I look at that post you linked:
    https://cloudup.com/crccAtTl_Gy

So, if you’re using a small 11inch or smaller netbook or tablet screen, what you’re seeing is normal. If you’re on a standard laptop or PC monitor, is your display settings perhaps set up to show items bigger than normal? That could also cause the theme to switch to the smaller screen display.

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!

You just gave me permission to throw this old monitor in the dump. I am going to buy a new one, a big one.

You were right, I changed the settings on this old monitor and the theme look went back to normal, it didn’t last…the monitor seem to have a mind of it’s own and changed it back.

I am sorry that I bothered you with an issue that seems to be my fault.

    Have a great day.

  • No need to apologise. At least now we know there isn’t any problem with your site :)
