widgets not showing in dashboard under sidebars, can't remove them
-
Hello, when I’m editing my blog, there are no widgets listed under any of my sidebar dropdowns in the dashboard, yet the widgets are on the blog itself. I’m trying to remove some of the widgets but I’m unable to do so since they are not showing up under the sidebars of my dashboard.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Every theme has a default display of what appears to be widgets but isn’t. When you go here and make your own widget choices you will override the default display > Appearance > Widgets
Click each widget to open it, configure where required, click “save” and click “close”. -
Hi timethief, thanks for your response. I understand that each theme has a default display and I know how to work the widgets and how to change and configure them, etc. I have another blog that I’ve successfully maintained for a few years now. But for this one, there are no widgets listed under the sidebar in the dashboard even though they are on the actual blog page. I’m not sure I’m explaining it well, sorry. Even on themes where there are default widgets, you can still see them under the sidebar in the dashboard, but for my new blog, it’s just blank under the sidebar, not showing the widgets already in use and I’ve tried a few different themes and all show the same blank sidebar result. My other blog is not showing this. I went to the theme I want to use for this new one and the widgets still appear there. But for my new blog, they don’t.

Is this the blog in question? http://nolaraw.wordpress.com/
If not please post the URL for the blog you mean.If you are not running one of the browsers and versions listed at http://browsehappy.com/ please try upgrading or switching first.
Note: If you are using an IE9 browser in compatibility mode that makes it render as IE7 and IE7 is not supported. To disable see > http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1196-internet-explorer-compatibility-view-turn-off.html
If you are running one of the browsers and versions listed at http://browsehappy.com please do these four things:
1. Try clearing your browser’s cache: http://www.google.com/support/accounts/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=32050
2. Make sure that you have third-party cookies enabled: http://en.support.wordpress.com/third-party-cookies/
3. Try with all browser extensions or add-ons temporarily disabled.
4. Try enabling HTTPS: http://en.support.wordpress.com/https/
If it’s still happening, let us know exactly which browser (and version of it) you’re using by checking here if necessary http://www.whatbrowser.org/ and also post any error reports you get.

Yes, that is the url, and I’ve already followed all those steps above. It happens on any browser I use: Firefox, IE, Google Chrome, etc, and on three different computers I’ve tried – but only for this new blog. My other blog is fine with all browsers and all of my computers. For example, when I choose Oxygen theme on my old blog, it shows me the widgets under the sidebar. But for my new blog, it doesn’t show any widgets for Oxygen under the sidebar and I can’t move any widgets to the sidebar either. It also doesn’t show widgets for any other theme I’ve tried so far.

p.s. I forgot to add that these widgets I’m trying to remove are already showing up under inactive widgets on my dashboard instead of being under the sidebars, but they are not inactive because they are showing up on my blog page.

Thanks so much for responding. Please be patient while waiting for Staff to take a look at your blog and find out what’s going on.

Even on themes where there are default widgets, you can still see them under the sidebar in the dashboard
That’s not correct. When you switch from a theme to a similarly designed theme, the widgets you had added remain in place, and it’s these widgets you see in Appearance > Widgets > Sidebar. When you switch to a differently designed theme, the widgets you had added move to Inactive, and the theme displays its default sidebar items. The default sidebar items of a theme do not show in Appearance > Widgets > Sidebar, and they they disappear from the blog when you add the widgets you actually want.
