Widgets not showing on site

Hi! I’ve been having some trouble with the footer widgets on my site. I had added three separate widgets for my social media pages (Instagram, Facebook and Twitter) and had never had an issue with any of them before. Since May 2020 however my Facebook and Instagram footer widgets are no longer visible on my site (including the WordPress backend). When I click on customise > widgets, I can see that my Facebook and Twitter page info is still up on Footer 1 and Footer 2, however neither is visible in the footer area of the website. I recently changed my WordPress theme after the issue first popped up and have tried deleting and adding widgets afresh, but am still having the issue. Please help!

  • Hi there,

Is this on https://cadencerage.wordpress.com/? Your Facebook and Twitter widgets are working fine for me, so this is likely a browser issue. The good news is that this means it’s probably loading fine for the majority of your regular visitors as well.

Specifically, if you’re using any tracking-blocking in your browser, that blocks us from fetching data from Facebook and Twitter to display on your page, causing the widgets to not load.

If you’re using any anti-tracking add-ons in your browser, try disabling those, or set an exception for your site. Else check your browser’s privacy settings to see whether it might be blocking it at that level. From personal experience I can tell you that the browser-add-ons for some anti-virus software does this.

Oh my gosh, I’m so sorry for the trouble! I didn’t know my anti-virus software could have been blocking this. I’ve disabled it for my site and can confirm that I can see the widgets now. Thank you so much for your help!
