Widgets Not Showing Up At All

  • Unknown's avatar

OK. Everything was fine and when I went to view my page after adding a post, my widgets were gone. I have gone through many things to troubleshoot this:
    -Clear Browser Cache
    -View in Other Browsers
    -Delete Widgets and Reapply
    -Change Themes

I don’t know what’s going on. I am using the free version of WordPress so I’m not editing any PHP or anything. Help please!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

OK. I discovered something. When I view individual posts the widgets show up. They do not show up when I view the homepage though.

I see all your widgets on the main page as well as on the single-post pages.

    calendar
    recent posts
    amusing
    blogroll
    friends
    hobbies

At allthingssquenix.wordpress.com, I see the following widgets on the sidebar:

    calendar
    blogroll

What other widgets are supposed to be there?

I’m having the exact same problem. Anyone know hot to fix this?

How long ago did you map your new domain name? W3C validator is saying that there is a 500 internal server error and saying it might have something to do with DNS.

I just looked at your source code, and it is really messed up. You need to contact staff at http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/ .

Me too. All my widgets are gone.

Also, the ‘save draft’ button is gone when I try to write a post…

@jillcola, your sidebar is there, just clear at the bottom of the blog and there are probably a number of things that might cause this. First off, go to settings > reading and reduce the number of posts showing on the page. Your site is a serious bandwidth hog. You also need to possibly rework the background image being used as it loads very slowly. A background image should never be over 75k. Also check any images you are using in posts. Again, they should not be over 75k in file size.

Go to settings > writing and select “WordPress should correct invalidly nested XHTML automatically” and save. Now starting with your latest post, open it in the editor, make one minor change such as adding a space and then deleting it, and then click the update button. Do that with all posts on your front page.

You are also using a lot of obsolete or depreciated HTML tags. WordPress is now going HTML5, and tags such as “i” and “b” are obsolete. The above procedure should fix those though (I hope).

@rolandete, try the settings > writing and editing thing I suggested to @jillcola with your main blog page post and see if that fixes the issue.

@sacred – Thanks! I did what you said, and the widgets are back. (I can’t figure out how to see the size of a picture? But tweaking as you suggested repaired the issue with the widgets.)

I still have no ‘save draft’ button…

    Thanks!

“Save Draft” will only show up on draft posts (those that have not been published. Create a new post and see if it shows up in the “publish” module. If it does not, log out of wordpress, clear your browser cache and cookies, restart your browser and then try again.

On the image file size, WP will not report that. You will have to look at the original images that are/were on your computer.

I looked at a few of your images and they aren’t that bad, but since you are “hotlinking” them from other sites, the browser has to go to each of those sites and download each image in order to be able to display it. That takes extra time.

I would probably suggest cutting your number of posts per page back to about 5.

  • Unknown's avatar

Oh, ha! Okay, I feel a bit silly. I checked, and the ‘save draft’ button is there for unpublished posts. For some reason, I thought it showed up all the time.

I’ll leave you alone now. Thanks.

Okay, I’ll do that. Thanks so much. I really appreciate it.
