Widgets not working on static pages
-
I’ve checked the support section and still haven’t been able to resolve this, so I’m hoping someone out there can enlighten me. I have to preface the question by saying I’m a total WP newbie but have a lot of experience building sites in Dreamweaver.
I’ve created a static site and have installed a couple of very basic widgets in the sidebar, using the Duster theme. However, the widgets aren’t showing up on the pages when I preview. Is this because I’ve set up the site as static pages?
Another issue is that the text on the home page appears as if it’s set up as a two-column layout, with a blank space to the right for the sidebar, but the following pages – which use the home page as the parent – don’t match it.
Thanks for any help to resolve this very frustrating situation!

Some themes, including Duster, don’t display the sidebar on static pages.
The chief merit of Duster is its special “Showcase” template. See here:
http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/duster/If you’re not going to have posts, and if you need the sidebar on your static pages, then just forget Duster and select another theme. For the (few) themes you need to avoid, consult this post:

Thank you, you’ve saved me a lot of time trying to figure out what I was missing. Appreciate the links.

You’re welcome.
I forgot that some themes have no sidebar at all, or have more than one sidebar, so here’s one more link:
http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2011/02/26/sidebars-and-other-widget-areas/You need one of the themes listed under “One sidebar” and “Sidebar(s) plus bottom and/or header” (bottom widget areas are optional).

To o2design:
At the Norwalk Quilt Trail site – you should edit the “Home” page and the “Example Page”. Leaving them the way they are makes it look like nobody’s home.

The site in question is now a wordpress.org site and in transition. Some things got changed during the move – such as the header image and the menu structure – but will be resolved in the next couple of days. The reason for the move was so that the site would be compatible with another site that it eventually will be merged with, with is also a wordpress.org site.
