Widgets on Static pages

Can you add widgets to static pages or only blog post pages?
    If so, how?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

If you add widgets to your Showcase Sidebar area from Appearance > Widgets you can then navigate to Pages > Edit Page and then select “Showcase Template” from the Page Attributes section. If the Page Attribute section doesn’t display you can select it from “Theme Options” on the top right of the page. It will display slightly differently from the default widgets. This theme doesn’t seem to display regular widgets on static pages but it is a new theme and I am not too familiar with it.

The problem with this is that I don’t want the featured post or sticky post, I just want the sidebar widgets. I’ll play with it some to see what happens.

In a thread I do not have time to locate right now Lance from the Theme Team stated that this theme is meant to Showcase individual Posts and Pages. That’s why there is no coding in the template to provide for widgets on single pages for posts or for pages. He suggested that the footer area be used for widgets.
