Widgets Options greyed out :(
-
Hi i need help….
I just changed the design of my blog and somehow or rather, my widget settings are all gone… ie. blog counter, Recent Comments, etc..
When i first started the blog, i had to add in the Widgets manually..
But now, when i tried to add, there isnt an option for me to add the widgets which i had in my previous design..
Please help…..

Tried to revert to my old design and the widgets that i have originally are there…. Why is this so???

Did you change to one of the themes that already had default widgets? I had that happen and what was recommended (here) was to add a random widget and save changes; apparently that tells it that you want custom widgets instead of the default set. I’ve seen other posts that said just saving might do the trick. That did work for me; it showed my previously-set widgets afterwards.

Some themes do not support widgets, and instead have hard-coded widgets that cannot be changed. What theme did this happen with?

Hi all, many thanks for the reply.
im currently using Tarski by Benedict Eastaugh and Chris Sternal-Johnson.
The theme that i wanna change to is Dusk…

First off, before changing themes, copy all the stuff you have put into text widgets (blog counter, etc.) and paste it into a plain text file so you don’t lose any of it when you change over.
If you are switching to a theme that has a different number of sidebars, you will have to recreate at least one of your sidebars after switching.
Dusk is widget aware which means that you can add/remove/change the widgets in the sidebar.
What exactly do you mean “widgets options greyed out?” Even with themes that are not widget aware, this is not normal behavior. There is typically just a text warning that the sidebar is not customizable or something to that effect.

Weird, I did the reverse (Dusk to Tarski); if it’s the same problem I had, there are no widgets listed under “Current Widgets”, but the previously added widgets don’t have “Add” and so can’t be added back.
I just changed back and forth a few times, and just clicking “Save Changes” on the Widget page ought to bring the previously-added widgets back. I will second the advice of keeping a list of which widgets and which options are used, just in case there are problems; I keep one in my drafts.

If the widgets do not appear, then click the “save changes” button and they should appear for you. If not, add a text widget to the sidebar and then click save changes and the widgets should appear. Then you can remove the text widget you added.

Hi Zabez/Thesacredpath,
Thanks for your valuable replies…
The problem is now solved… or rather unsolved..When i say widgets optioned greyed out — it means, the “Add” button is gone…
When i tried Zabez’s method by clicking on save, all my original widgets came back..So my problem is solved.. but the mystery is not ^_^
Anyway, thanks again :)
