Widgets that span both sidebars for Andreas04

  • Unknown's avatar

I am using the Andreas04 theme and would like for some of my widgets to span both of my sidebars. If you look at the theme preview, it shows two widgets that span both sidebars at the top of the page, and then there are two separate columns the rest of the way down the page. Does anyone know how to do that?

What you’re looking at in the theme preview is the default setup that doesn’t include widgets. When you start adding widgets, your selection overrides what was there and all that is displayed is the widgets that you’ve added in. You’d have to edit the underlying files to get widgets to display across both columns and that you can not do here.

I would like to do this as well. As sappelhans says, in the template preview it shows one side bar at the top spanning both comments and under that 2 column sidebars. So – how do you do this?

Please read the post immediately above yours. You’d have to edit the underlying files to get widgets to display across both columns and that you can not do here.

I did read the post. As original poster says in preview it does show as we want. See here also

So if we can’t do here how can we do it as clearly it can be done?

Take note that when you look at the theme at the link you provide you see no blue navigation bar at the top like you do on our wordpress.com blogs. The preview is a preview of the theme running on different software. Specifically it is self hosted and running software from http://wordpress.org.

What we have here is the theme after it was adapted to run on this wordpress multi-user blogging platform wp-MU. We cannot edit our themes here in this shared blogging environment. If we could then every blogger who had chosen the same theme would find theirs likewise changed.

If this is important to you then you can leave wordpress.com hosting, hire a webhost, download the software from http://wordpress.org and then import the contents of your wordpress.com blog into the new one. https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic.php?id=3700

The preview is without the widgets.
