Width of Gallery Pictures

Hi,
It would be great if you could have a look at the following problem
Steps to reproduce:
1. Use the Illustrator theme (free version)
2. Add a new Portfolio Post
3. Add a gallery (Tiled mosaic for example) similar to those: https://en.support.wordpress.com/gallery/
4. Result on laptop browser: The gallery will always scale to 1100px width, however the text is only 840px wide. If you do not see the effect, try to zoom out using cmd + –

I would like my images to have the same width as my text, how can I do it using the gallery?
Thanks

• Good morning –

Could you grab a screen shot of what you are seeing and add it to the media library on the site for me. Then I can compare what you’re seeing to what I see in testing.

What browser type are you using? The version number? Does it happen in other browsers?

Hi, thanks for investigating. I have added the screenshot to the media library. For me the problem exists in Safari (Version 11.0.3 (13604.5.6)) as well as in Chrome across different laptops. Let me know if there is any additional information you need from me.

• I took a look through the site trying to spot what you’ve described. Can you send me a direct link to one of the affected galleries?

PS – that’s a lovely coat that you made!

Thanks. If you go on this site for example: https://overthetopstitch.wordpress.com/portfolio/coat-burda-08-2010-111/
and you scroll down to the Picture of the welt pocket, you will find 2 pictures next to each other underneath. Those two pictures are wider than the text and also wider than the picture on top. I could not find a way to control the width of the gallery. Ideally I would like the two pictures combined to be the same width as the text and the picture on top.

1) welt pockets (Paspeltaschen), instead of flap pockets (Pattentaschen), where I used a very warm and soft jersey lining

• Perfect. I see exactly what you’re talking about.

Is it alright with you if I edit the post to play around and see if we can get that gallery to be the same width as the rest of items on the page?

Sure, go ahead in edit. Would be great if you find a solution for this.

• Ok perfect. I’ll give it a go and report back.

• Hi again –

What I did was removed the “gallery” all together and added the images as individuals in to the post at that original spot. Now, when you take a look at the post the images are no longer wider than the rest of the post.

If you want, you could wrap the text starting with 2) up around the left side of those two images.

Hi, thanks a lot, this solution works for me. I made the pictures a bit wider. Is there any tip what I can use to ensure they always show up next to one another as long as they are scaled correcty? For example span vs paragraph?

• As long as they are inserted together in the same place on the post they should be next to one another – the exception would be if one of them was too large, in which case, they’d revert to being a top-bottom arrangement. Does that make sense?

You can use the command key when inserting media from the library to the post to insert multiples at the same time as well.
