width of posts in Sela theme
-
Hi,
I’m happy with the Sela template displaying my blog posts on the home page (as assigned) as excerpts.
But when i click to view the whole post, I don’t like that the post itself is not full width.
is there anything I can do to change this?
Is it because of the sidebar?
How can I maintain the current homepage (latest post excerpts and small sidebar) whilst showing the posts in a more visual format?
Thank you
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi
If you want to make the individual blog posts full-with, you’ll need to have the premium or business level plan (see details at https://wordpress.com/pricing/) and adjust the CSS for those changes.
If you have the upgraded plan, let me know and I can help you with the process of editing the CSS.

Hi Melinda,
Thanks for your message.
I’d like to know it is doable before committing to an upgrade.
I want to keep the homepage as I have it with the sidebar, but when each post is clicked on, have the whole post open full width. Is that feasible with the CSS upgrade?
I’ve looked at other themes to try to achieve what I’m after but it’s a constant compromise – either the homepage doesn’t look right, but the posts display well, or vice versa!
I’d be happy to consider alternative themes if there are suggestions (I’ve spent a long time trawling!)
Thanks again,
Sarah

Yes. It is possible to hide the sidebar on all internal pages/posts and make the content full width.
As far as what else is possible, you might want to take a look at the CSS support forum at https://en.forums.wordpress.com/forum/css-customization. You can search for the Sela theme and see what kinds of customizations are being discussed and see what you think.
Hope this helps!

While it’s definitely possible with custom CSS to make the Sela layout full-width on single blog posts as Melinda said, you might want to consider a theme that automatically expands to full width if there are no widgets in the sidebar, like Button or Twenty Sixteen.
What you’d do is use the widget visibility feature to set each sidebar widget to Hide if the page is a Post type. That would keep the widget (and sidebar) displayed everywhere except on single posts. Without widgets in the sidebar, the main column in these themes will expand to fill the entire content width on single posts.
